Hi people.. I want basically just to see how performance varies from computer to computer. Right now I'm waiting for my new "baby" to arrive by mail. My current system is:

AMD K6-2 500mhz
128 pc133 ram
Voodoo3 2000
1 x 4.0gb HD
1 x 10gb HD
1x Generic CDROM
1x Toshiba DVD/cdrw combo
Integrated Sound
etc.

and let me tell you ppl, playing with emulators (mostly psx emus) is a mess. So I'm upgrading to :

AMD Thunderbird 1.2Ghz
256 MB PC133
Gigabyte mobo
Elsa GeForce MX400 64MB ram w TV out
Sound Blaster Live
1 x 20gb WD hd
etc..

so I expect good gameplay and faster speeds.!! Is this a good system to play PSX Emus?? Could you post your specs and gameplay performance???

Thanks.. it'll be of great help..!

That is an excellent system to play PSX emus on. It should run them just fine and dandy. My system specs are: Athlon T-Bird 1.2ghz (like yours), Soyo SY-K7VTA Pro mother board, 128 megs of PC133 memory, Windows 98 First Edition, Elsa Galdiac GEForce 2 GTS 32 mb, Sound Blaster Live Value, Western Digital 4 gig HD, 8 gig HD (not sure of the brand), 4x/24x/4x HP 8250i CD Writer, and a 10x/40x Pioneer DVD drive. This system runs ePSXe flawlessly using Pete's OGL GPU vers. 1.50, Pete's CD Rom plugin vers. 1.4, Pete's Midas plugin (latest) or sometimes the internal SPU, Logitec Wingman Rumble Pad, and the 7502 Bios. I hope this what you were looking for.:)
sincerely,

yeahh.. thanks.. Do you have benchmarks or something? Do framerates stay constant or do they lower. This is a powerfull processor but since our video cards varies...!!

This is for everyone too. Post about your system and performance it'll be of great help.!

Sorry no benchmarks. But my FPS stays constant at 60 FPS or if it fluctuates it is between 59 and 60 FPS. This is with every single game I own, not just one or two.

The diffrences between the MX200/MX/MX400 are very slight, but here they are:

GeForce 2 MX 400:
2.7GB Memory bandwith
400M pixels/sec., 800M texels/sec.
64/32MB

GeForce 2 MX:
2.7GB Memory bandwith
350M pixels/sec., 700M texels/sec.
64/32MB

GeForce 2 MX 200:
1.3GB/sec. Memory bandwith
350M pixels/sec., 700M texels/sec.
32MB

So the diffrence is not much. The lower bandwith in the 200 would make it choppier in 32bit color or FSAA. And the extra polygons in the 400 would make the card able to give you ever so slighty higher frame rates.

Well here's my system, not the best thing out there, but I can say that the games I've played run at a solid 60FPS @ [email protected]

PIII 600
ABit BX6 mobo
256MB of RAM
Asus V7100 Pure 32MB (GeForce 2 MX)
SB Live! Value
12x/40x Toshiba DVD
12/10/32A Plextor CDRW
40GB UDMA100 7200RPM WD HD
8.4GB UDMA33 5400RPM WD HD

BTW, I've read around that the GF2 MX400 is no better than the GF2 MX as the memory is clocked at the same speed so you gain nothing...

my babe's specs are :
amd duron 800 ,
30 GB hdd western digital caviar ATA 100 5400 rpm
192 MB ram pc 100 (64MB) & 133 (128 MB)
motherboard soltek via 133a(266) or some thing like that
geforce 2mx 32MB ram
creative infra 32x (4800) cd-rom drive
mitsumi 4x4x24 cd-rw
these are the main specs not mentioning the tv card and the fax modem
or the bios writer card (doesnt effect the emulation )
all the psx games that i run works at the 60 fps(59-60 actualy) , and
when i said all i ment a huge collectin (since im running a store with a freind
of mine right now )
ive got even more than what you could imagine of a second hand cd's.
I think that the computer you'll get soon is great , great specs.
ah ... and about the geforce400 you'r getting is well known of a better fps at
32 bit color depth at the high resolioutions as i learned from a freind which
told me also that it migt be a 10 to 20 % faster than the older
gts or ultra . its a geforce 2 any way.
since your going to use an nvidia card you'll need to use the petes OGL
plugin for video in the epsxe and you shall get even more than what you need of
power for emulation.
good luck with your new...(babe)... see ya.

I get an almost consistent 60fps with 4x FSAA at 800*600(games like FF9 sometimes slow down).

The GeForce2 MX is supposed to be as good as the GeForce 2 GTS with the added ability of twin view. Personally use twinview, and i love it, can output my emu to a TV while goofin around on the internet on my monitor. And i dont notice any slowdown in emulaton.

The MX and the MX 400 will perform exactly the same in 32 bit color. Its just that the 400 will pump a few more polygons per second. I bought the Leadtek SH pro (with the 400 chip set) and noticed maybe one or two FPS diffrence in some video games (cant tell with 200+ fps in the emulator). Its 3Dmark2001 score was only about 100 higher, (4198 VS 4077). So i belive that the only reason to spend more for the MX400 chip is if it is reasonably more than the MX. STAY AWAY FROM THE 200!!, its halfed memory pipeline is a death to the videogames.

The price diffrence between the Leadtek MX vs MX 400 is only 20 bucks, but i couldn't justify the $20
