Too many to name... I'll just name a few from GBA, and a few from DS(which, while I don't have a DS, and can only use emulators, I still KNOW which games I will love):

GBA:
Advance Wars/Advance Wars 2 - Black Hole Rising
Castlevania Circle of the Moon/Harmony of Dissonance/Aria of Sorrow
Final Fantasy I&II - Dawn of Souls
Golden Sun/Golden Sun - The Lost Age
Mario & Luigi - Superstar Saga
Metroid Fusion/Metroid Zero Mission
Riviera - The Promised Land
Summon Night Swordcraft Story/Summon Night Swordcraft Story 2
Yggdra Union

DS:
Advance Wars Dual Strike
Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow/Portrait of Ruin
Jump! SuperStars/Ultimate Stars
Mario & Luigi - Partners in Time
Megaman ZX/ZX Advent(? If it uses the same style as ZX, then yes...)
Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney/Justice For All/Trials and Tribulations(can't...wait...)

There are too many genres and systems and technologies to choose.

However a game which can provide you with almost endless entertainment is Clubhouse Games for the DS. (42 all in 1 classics is the European name I think)

Well fav handheld game is probably the pokémon series from original red blue and yellow to silver gold and crystal. those are best, new games suck.

other fav handhelds, sonic battle, and some old ninja turtles game for original gameboy, anyone know the name?

there are 3 ones.... forgot the exact names.

I see some people mention Phoenix Wright and yep, that was probably the game on DS I liked best (especially the first one). The only problem for these kind of games is the lack of replay value (same goes for my all-time favourite Snatcher, I hardly play it because there's nothing to replay other than to remember).
