Can anybody explain to me what the "orange" and "white" sata ports are and how they are to be used on this motherboard?

ASUS

I am starting to research the mb for my upgrade that will happen in the coming months and would like to know a lot more about my purchase this time around!

I just was curious as I was looking for a MB that has a good amount of SATA ports (and overclockability) and after seeing this one having 8 I was interested, but the fact that there are these 2 SATA ports that are colored differently to the 6 "red" sata ports making me think that they have a unique purpose!

The white and orange one would be the:

Silicon Image Sil5723 Serial ATA Raid connectors
(7-pin Sata_E1 (orange = port 0) 7-in Sata_E2 (white = port 2)

for more information about other asus board, you can look it up at asus and download the manual of the mobo. It's written in there...

The usual red ones would be ICH10. And they are usually better than the extra sata ports on Asus boards...

They allow for use of ASUS EZ Backup (one HDD automatically backs up all the data of another HDD) and SuperSpeed (two HDDs can both access the same data at the same time in dual channel).

Be carefull when using either technology though as EZBackup wipes all the drives on the white SATA ports and SuperSpeed wipes both drives.

It's a decent motherboard by the way.
