I've been thinking of making my own webpage and currently working on the layout... This is a first early version, I'd like to know your opinions :)

Vanit -> you can get your own back now :D

Thank you :) Well, maybe it does but there's still a lot to do here. And I've got still much to learn in PSP to which I currently switch from Paint Shop Pro. If you'd like I could make a layout for you too, Vanit - it'll be a good exercise for me :)

IMO that middle bar looks weird when it is behind the two other objects. Otherwise only the outer glow bugs me, but its coming along well for a wip.

Yeah I agree with Reich about the left menu. Maybe get rid of the dropshadow there. For me personally I have never been a huge fan of using a ton of styles such as gradients, dropshadows, glow effects at the same time. It tends to make it look to bloated and takes away from the content of the page.

This also depends on the purpose of the site as well. If it is just a personal page then you should design it to your taste with the color scheme you like and the styles that fit you. If the site is for other purposes then it is best to make it for the visitors in mind.

The new one definitely has a more consistant colour theme.

As for making me a layout I'd have to turn you down. I know you'd probably come up with a really good one but I couldn't live with the layout being made by someone else.

Changed conception a little :> Well, to be honest that design didn't fit my taste... I made a new one, so please tell me what do you think of it and what would you change/add/subtract? Kinda liked messing up with poly lasso tool :D

Generalplot -> I bare that in mind :) I'll tell you once its finished right away!

That's a bit too old school and boring for me, plus its nothing people haven't seen before. It just doesn't really pop out at me or hold my interest. The fonts are also a bit old school, you might try DaFont, probably the best free font website. You should also check out CSS Zen Garden or some other sites and get some inspiration, might help. The better you learn that paint program the better your designs will be, so keep at it :)

Thank you, zenogais. As I mentioned, I have just started learning PS, so there's still a long way from the things I create to the things I want to create (not everything what's in my head can I make in PS at the time...), sometimes I need inspiration too (totally skinned from ideas...). The other thing is that it's hard to create something new in webdesigning nowadays. Well, you know how it is, the beginning is always the worst. I'll be doing my best and of course a critic opinions such as yours are always valuable :)

ahh the colors are much better now , the shapes are ok for me, the left menu Fonts don´t seem to fit in though.

BTW: as keith said, if ur making a page for urself then doit because asking people in forums about it there will be ALWAYS someone who didn´t like this or that or this or...
I think thats why skins or custom schemes were invented .. ;)
but if u like to change ur work twice a day , i havn´t said a word ^^

Thank you Shin Gouki. Yes, I find those fonts not fitting there too, but having 1000+ fonts on my HD it'll take some time to find the most fitting one :) I have already decided to use this layout on my page as its v1.0, but I am concerned about the details now. I'll work on this later. I am posting my works here to learn ppl's opinion on them and whether I have any chance to become a pro or not :)

Side note - there's a page which's design I like veeery much. Look here. I wish I could create something like this.

That website would work fine as a less-than-lightweight v1.0 personal site, but as far as professional quality I don't really think it is. It's probably fine for right now though, besides you can always revise it if you think of something you like better. My website has already gone through 4 revisions and is currently undergoing a fifth, it just takes a while to understand what works for your website and what doesn't.

@Hyuga
IMO u should not consider by people opinions here to become a designer pro or not , there are SEVERAL, IMPORTANT factors which should influence this descion but the opinions gatherd here I would not put in that context but its ur desicion.
I can say that from a VERY tiny bit of practical experience :
creative part is almost zero since u get drafts u HAVE to use from "designers" as a web developper u just get graphics and some content and pput it togehter with webtechnologys like: CSS, XHTML, javascript etc...
So in my opinion there are quite few web developpers which do the creative part AND the technical part of webprogramming. In the real world in a company these buisness are kept seperated. Thats my experience. So find out what u like more design or technical stuff.
@zenogais
revisions .. uhm right.. but IMO:
concerning the status of ur page ATM, i would say that the requirement <easy information access> is fullfilled but the <design> aspect is uhm... too simple.. imo ^^
:p

BTW: the tutoriallinks are not working is that supposed to be this way?

Shin_Gouki: yeh, I got that response alot about the design, that's why I'm redoing it and adding new features. Also in the real world, webdevelopers are mostly responsible for graphics and webpage scripting. It's not just about slapping graphics together its about coming up with consistent, decent-looking typography and color schemes both inside and outside the HTML/CSS code. At least that has been my experience thus far. The tutorial links are supposed to be that way, I didn't even finish that redesign before I started on another one lol. You can find them by going here

So in other words you advice me to learn html/css and such too, zenogais. I already know html, the other things I am going to learn a little bit later. I've got pretty much time you know, because I want to know all this when I finish my studies which'll take three years from now. I study network administration and such, but I prefer to be a webdeveloper anyway :) So I decided to learn webdeveloping myself (I also think about DTP). Too bad I started so late... I'm 25 now :(
I share your opinion that the layout suits for a personal site and definately not for a professional one, but that's the way it's supposed to be :) I want to make my personal Ayumi Hamasaki fan site as I mentioned earlier.

@Shin Gouki
People's opinions are always valuable for a developer regardless of their enchantment or criticism. Actually the latter ones are most valuable, at least for me. Of course I am not going to base on them whether there's a chance to becoma a pro, but they definately help me to make better designs :)
