To render December 21, 2012, as a doomsday or moment of cosmic shifting, she says, is "a complete fabrication and a chance for a lot of people to cash in."

I've also heard that this date symbolises the end of the "spiritual dark age" and the beginning of the age of enlightenment, where the world is supposed to become a more positive and better place for everyone. This is a better way to think of it I think (if you choose to believe in such things).

Personally I think prophesies are a waste of time because they have no proof, and also often dangerous because they tend to be predict very bad things (like the end of the world) and have a tendency to become self-fulfilling. It's by people believing that the end of the world is coming that they might actually bring it around.
