I'm not saying the site needs to be rolled back.
Well I am, this new layout sucks ass, sorry for being harsh but it does. I've given it a chance since it came out, and it's safe to say now there's not a single thing I find more covenant or better then the previous version of the forums. You might not care, but this change is making me stop coming here, it's just that bad, and maybe there are others too that share my opinions but are just more silent then me, you're only driving traffic away with this change bud, I doubt there is anyone that's going to start coming here more now with these changes... Anyway good luck on the site.

The change in platforms was needed.

Can you tell me what you don’t like about it? Is there anything I can help you find?

Like most of us, I am a creature of habit, so it takes me a bit to get used to changes. (I was more than a little grumpy about it all at first.) I was lucky enough to get the chance to play with the new platform before they went live with it so I am already getting used to it.

change isn't always good...the site is now harder to navigate, the layout is too consolidated for desktop users...so there is too much clicking sudo dropdowns just to find what you are looking for.. alerts you have to click through a second page just to see what the alert is for...the overall site is SLOOOOW as molasses... going to different forums takes waaay too long...
and I won't get into how ugly everything looks(AKA the themes are terrible)...

I am a very old member of this place and as I already said in another post the design of this website play a huge roll in many of us. Its simplicity is what keep us coming back and while I love changes even I have been losing interest recently in visiting this place because of the changes. What changes you may ask?

  • Its not easy to see who is online
  • Threads comments don't show who last replied
  • The design is not bad but it feels very generic but so far works better
  • There is no more nostalgia each time you enter this place which is what probably attach many of us
I completely understand that a change was needed but at least a option to switch to a design similar to the old one would be great.

Thank you for providing detailed feedback. We will be seeing weekly updates (approximately) that will be largely fueled by member feedback.

Is this what you are looking for in regards to who posted last?

I will pass on all feedback to the developers.

Yes that is what I meant. Old members were used to certain things here and they rarely browse everything so having a quick info help them. I hope others post their thoughts here as that may help improve the experience for all of us.

Somthing I'd like to point out:

201372

It seems that you have to click/tap the link to access the posts under new posts and alerts. While it's easy to figure out roughly which groups of words are the link, ease of use standards and general web page standards suggest that the link should be underlined, displayed as a different color, or both. (Note that the link to the Random Thoughts Thread is only underlined because I tapped it previously)

Before the switch, it was even more convenient because you could click/tap anywhere in the element and it would operate as the link. There was also a dedicated Alerts icon that would show a quick access drop down menu which was very convenient. Loved having that...

I have to say after using it for a while now I think it's really nice on mobile but terrible on desktop. It's so difficult to navigate on a pc now.

To follow that up...
I'm getting a little worried at the state of these forums now with all the ads, fabricated posts and now even a fabricated moderator (Autoguide.com) ?
The "trending" list is also completely off.

What makes it difficult to navigate? Let us know where we can improve for you

Allow me to clarify some of these:
We aim to integrate the ads in the most seamless way to ensure that it does not block content and can be easily scrolled past if the offer or product is not something of interest to you. While the complete removal of ads is difficult, ads help support the cost of operating the community, we are always looking at ways to optimize the balance between advertising and content. We are working with our development teams to also introduce a new premium membership for purchase in the coming months that will allow members to view the site ad-free.
Fabricated how? Can you clarify? I promise are all as human as possible ?You are far from the first or last person to think otherwise though.
The "Trending" list pull from cumulative data over time. When we moved to this software, it reset all the time values to be the date of moving. So some older posts with many clicks/likes/reads/comments seemed to be very popular given the software considered them only days old. This data will become more accurate over time, but I can understand why this might be confusing. I'll see what I can do about updating the home page to keep it more accurate :)

The site looks quite disorganized on desktop with lots of texts aligned differently from each other, with ads in between. The look is a lot cleaner on mobile.

The ads kind of confuse the threads IMO. Then there's people like all the "O Connors" asking the exact same question (same words even) about consoles. Seems odd to me.

Finally, the "non-top" forums are harder to find.

We will continue to see weekly updates (approximately) that are largely fueled by community feedback. While that doesn't mean we can action every request, it does mean we are actively listening to the feedback and sharing it with the developers. You can follow the progress here. :)

The idea of the premium subscription is understandable but IMO the site needs a little work before I could justify purchasing it.
Suggestions:
-re-introduce a dark-blue theme, it has to do with this site's history
-better initial forum listing when visiting the site
-preference of pc usage over mobile, or at least equal.

In the end it stands or falls with community participation, unfortunately so far it seems the last changes chased more people away. I don't think all the changes are bad, but it needs work.

I think there are few vital points missed that may have chased few people away such as myself. I can't remember the last time I was so disconnected to this forum like I am right now taking in mind I have been here for over 18 years now. My biggest issues with the forum right now apart from the design and the nostalgia are:

1. The forum feels confusing and require more navigation that what we were used to. For instance why not showing "Full Listing" as a default like it was in the past? instead I see myself clicking the Full Listing link and then going to the forum I originally want to go.

2. Talking about it... is not as handy to see who is online anymore. In the past that used to be at a very handy place right beside the forum listing.

3. Going here(ngemu.com/forums) to view the full forum listing show when was the last post but it doesn't show who last posted. That was very handy in the past in my opinion and something I really liked.

That being said....the forum has improved in certain things but is practically chasing the core members away who kept visiting this place out of nostalgia and that is sad. I totally understand the changes and hope they keep the good work BUT don't forget about old members.

We are the last dinosaurs of this place... a place where we have always felt at home.

I have a thread here that I made with the previous design:

Some of the text is invisible now on the default theme because the font was white. I tried editing the post, but I no longer see an option to be able to change the font color. Is there any way to re-enable that again?

The ability to allow for color themes is currently not being developed but has been documented for possible future development.
We are working on an update for the main landing page. Or are you inquiring more about the Forum Listing page, Which is easily accessed by the "Forums" icon on the top right of each page?
To what degree to you feel that the pages are optimized for a specific device. We've aimed to optimize for any screen size, which tends to be varied across all monitor sizes, down to mobile. There has been no preferential treatment in any of that optimizing.

Let me address these point by point too:
1)As mentioned we're reworking the main landing page, what would you like to see us develop into it beyond the forum's lists
2) If this is a suggestion for the main landing page we can work that into easier navigation. It currently is possible to pull up online members from the "Online Members" section of the member page.
3) Help me understand this request better if you don't mind. Are you looking to see activity in each forum by user? Or get both pieces of information from the forum screen?

The advanced editing functions do not include font color. If you wish to recolor I suggest copying the text into a text editor and recopy it back. It may be a tad more steps, but until we build out those advanced text editing options to amend colors, these would be the fastest path to resolution.

1. Sounds great and I can't wait to see the changes. What I meant will be explained in the next 2 points.

2. The red marked areas in the picture below show exactly what I meant in my previous post.

3. As I previously said old members want the old design back at least as an option. I totally understand why the changes to the forum was needed but I believe you guys don't understand what it means to us. Old members here have spent over 15+ years in this forum and like myself 18 years already. We don't visit this place for special features, modern design, news etc. we keep visiting this place out of NOSTALGIA.

That nostalgia is tied to great moments of our lives were this forum plays a huge role. Many of us pretty much grew up with this forum and its design plays a good role. This place have lots of memories of my coding career and friends I made all those years. The old design was clunky, ugly and probably not handy but it made many of us feel like visiting our grandma's house and feel at home.

I hope I was able to explain my point and probably hope I have speak for the old members here.
