Visual Troy Advance v1.0
Posted by wraggster At 12:06

GPF (Troy Davis) has tonight given me the honor of releasing the worlds first Game Boy Advance Emulator (also plays Game Boy Colour and Game Boy Mono games) for the Dreamcast Console.

The emulator is a port of Visual Boy Advance which was in turn ported to the GP32 by Chui and then Troy Davis ported the emulator to the Dreamcast Console.

The release comes in plain, and a rom image downloads and also the source code is available for anyone to carry this project onto greater heights.

heres some info from this release:

"Colors for gbc are not right
you can only load 1 rom per session, locks up if you return to menu and try to start a second rom
Sound is not quite right either, clicks and sputters occasionally disable sound fixes that :)"

Download the first GBA emulator for the Dreamcast from HERE . (Emulator is not on GPFs website)

Please give feedback on compatibility etc.
I've been really looking forward to this release and I'm definately going to try this one :D
Perhaps this could be posted at ngemu's main page?

In the forums I found another quote by Troy:
The released code is from my latest build, wraggster was unable to get that binary to selfboot, so I gave him my last build from December which still has SDL sound and gb ,gbc work fine as well as loading another rom after returning to the menu. Its not quite as fast but more compatible.

Meaning that there is a better version out there ^^

Someone who tried is said it runs commercial GBA games at about 50% speed, pretty impressive IMHO.

So far for the info, it's all I could find at DCemulation.com.
I'm going to DL it now :D

Edit:
Here are some screenshots:

Dont have a dreamcast.. but looks pretty damn cool.
Isn't this ironic....an emulator, emulating Game Boy Advance, is ported to the Dreamcast, and the preview screenshots are shown by loading it on a Dreamcast emulator....clasic. ;) Thanks for the pics, Cid. :p

r2rX :D
Yeah I know it's ironic, but it's the easiest way to make screenshots of such an emulator ;)
Once I have burned the disc, I can try if I can make some screenshots with my cell phone of the program running on my DC :)

I really hope this emulator will make some progress.
Little update:
On dcemulations.com's forums I found a thread about compatibility:

http://www.dcemulation.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=65265

There are still some limitations due to the DC's hardware: It's recommended the rom size is 8mb as maximum. Also GBA emulation's speed seems to be very slow at the moment, and the GBC emulation isn't as nice as DCGnuboy's emulation, but it's playable, though there are sound errors.

haven't seen any saves and i don't think they are supported
while haven't tried any gbc/gb quite yet I assure you that the Gba is extremely slow
it was half torture just get to the gameplay in Castlevania: circle of the moon just to have it freeze
low low unplayable framerate
Well at least there's a start :)
