Looks like not everything is getting built static. I'll take a look, but we'll probably need the VJ devs to check this one out.

Hmm, as far as I know it *should* build everything statically on the Mac platform. :(

goldenegg, it would be great if you could ask around some dev boards/irc that cater to the Mac about the problem as they'll probably give you some suggestions that you could try. My hands are kinda tied, as I don't have any access to any Mac hardware.

This build is mostly definitely broken. It probably works fine on the developer's machine because he's got all the libraries installed on the drive. When I run it on my Mac, it complains about missing libraries as well.

Is is possible someone could post a build with the libraries linked statically? The file at the top of this thread won't work on a machine that has all the development libraries installed.

I managed to build the app on my own Mac and got it to run. Of course, if I copy the executable to my non-development Mac, it fails to launch. The performance with Alien Vs Predator isn't really playable on a 2010 iMac (it's sluggish, but runs.)

If you are desperate for the build above to work, you can probably use MacPorts to installed the needed libraries:

1. Go to MacPorts.org and download the package for your version of Mac OS.
2. Once that's done, open a terminal up and run "sudo port install libsdl" It will install the SDL libraries.
3. You may also need to do "sudo port install qt4-mac". I had to do this in order for the "make" to build the app. It might not be needed for the build at the top of the thread, though.

Hopefully that may help some people who want to try the above, but don't have XCode installed and don't want to figure out how to build their own binary.

All I can think of at this point is that something changed on the Apple side, as we changed nothing in the build system and it used to build statically. Again, some Mac gurus are going to have to weigh in and tell us what happened.

/usr/lib/libobjc.A.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0, current version 228.0.0)

All those /usr/local and /opt/local paths show external library dependencies. Also, if you look at the bundle, there are no frameworks or libraries included. The current makefile isn't correct for OS X at all. You can't blame Apple for the make file being used. Nothing may have changed in the make file, but something did on the machine of the person who is doing the build.

I use XCode for my development, not gcc and make, so I can't figure it out. But a fair amount of Googling shows that trying to use static linking for an OS X app with libSDL isn't the right way to do it in the first place. It's strongly recommended that you use frameworks.

I wish I could make more progress on it, but you don't need a "Mac guru" you need an SDL/Make/OS X guru.

@mrnosuch
I am agree with you, this build isn't user friendly at all like ALL Mac Apps MUST be ;-)

We know that the Qt Library is needed and not include in the build (but since the new Qt 5 is no more Open Source...)
And since Mountain Lion, there is no more X Windows app in Mac OS X !!!
So, you have to install for example, Xquartz

But, even with that you can't use this build because of the wrong paths goldenegg use for this build :-(

You can (like I do) use Unix Alias to redirect to the goods paths but this solution is only for GEEKs users not for everyone...

So goldenegg, Try Again ;-)

Of course the Apple guys are going to say use Frameworks for everything, because it's proprietary and non-portable. And, of course, The One True Way(tm). :p

And you can say the makefile is wrong, but how do you know that, especially when you only use XCode? :p

The makefile builds two libraries then hands things off to qmake to build the application proper. I don't know how it can get any simpler than that, and if the Frameworks approach can't handle linking in static libraries, then I'd say that Frameworks are horribly broken.

My 2c :thumb:

Has there been any further progress on getting the Mac build of Virtual Jaguar 2.1.0 fixed so that it runs? I'm eager to try out the new version.

It's a very strange problem. The native build performs worse than running the win32 binary in Parallels (from what I've been told). I'm sure someone can figure out what's going wrong with the native build. :) Unfortunately, it can't be me as I don't have access to a Mac. :(
