Like nVidia, ATi makes reference cards. Sapphire took that card and changed the cooling on it. Third party manufacturers can also sometimes change the clockspeed of the card. I care little for ATi, but from what I have heard, their shouldnt be much difference between the two. Either one should be fine.

bahh I hate picking out a video card... now I'm thinking maybe geforce 6600gt. It out performed ATI's x700, not by alot but it also has shader model 3.0 which future games will be using. More bang for the buck it seems.

Nvidia does not even make its reference boards. EVGA does. Sapphire is equivalent to ATI what EVGA is to Nvidia.

Ok I understand, I'm trying to decide between x700 and 6600GT. What I understand is that BFG is the way to go. It's overclocked out of the box and has a lifetime warranty but it's $50 more then other 6600GT cards.

Is it worth it? considering that it is a lifetime warranty I could fry it and get another one :)

6600GT are the better buy. The X700 Pros just arent as good IMO. But. be wary that they do output a great deal of heat. If your room tempatures are decent and you have decent airflow it wont be a problem. With my SLI setup I am combating alot of heat output and have had to take some higher measures to ensure they run cool and stable. I hear the X700XT line is hot as well. But not sure about the x700 Pro.

Just incase you do end up going for the X700Pro, get the ATI branded one. You get better customer support and sometimes they come out with better promotional things if you have 'an ATI card' And that doesn't include brands like Sapphire and other brands alike.

*me shakes his fist at Chris*

Beware! He works for NV News!
