Using PS3 Wireless Controller as a gamepad

674 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Spyhop
Hey, so I've got a PS3 wireless controller and I'm intending to use it as a gamepad to play mainly emulated games.

What's the simplest way to do this? What other components will I need to buy (minimum)? Can I just buy any mini B USB cable and play it with that? I'm not bothered about the wireless, I just want it to work.

After I've got it to work what're the best/most common drivers used? Searching around most people recommend completely different drivers.

Oh and, for buying the cable, would something like this work?

Thanks :)

You are right about the mini B USB connection, though the problem is that the connector on the "official" cable juts outward a bit further than the USB mini B standard calls for. The connector leads may or may not actually connect properly to the PS3 controller's leads.

Go to the above site and download the latest driver and be sure to read how to properly install the drivers. This driver supports rumble and can even connect your DS3 via bluetooth. Not every bluetooth dongle works, mind you, so be sure to check the forums and comments sections there.

Um, maybe?:heh:

You might have to force it a bit to make it work.
Any Male-A to Male-MiniB will work. They're not proprietary. Very little on the PS3 is.
