"Who cares about turn-based games?
What was the last turn-based game you played? What about the one before that? Hard to remember? It should be. Turn-based games have been disappearing off the face of the planet. It's our fault.

We, the same gamers who complain that all games nowadays are the same, that they all lack depth or meaning; it is we who are responsible for the demise of a whole type of game. Hardly anyone makes turn-based strategy games like Civilization anymore. We don't see war-games like Gary Grigsby's War In Russia getting press and gamer attention. What's the last turn-based RPG to really make an impact in the marketplace? Even squad-based combat games (like X-Com and Jagged Alliance) are moving to real-time - just look at Fallout: Tactics. "

But seriously I miss my Turn based strategy games, call me old fashioned, but i love turn based strategy :D . Dont get me wrong i also love my Halo's and Grant turismo's, but I just recently realised that there are basicaly no new turn based strategy games. Is there realy no more room in todays game market for some good old "thinking man's" games, or has it all become about flashy grafix and sensless violance?

Where have we went wrong? :(

Recent turn based games I remember.......
Master of Orion 3.
Disgaea, and the rest of the Nippon Ichi SRPGs. All the Final Fantasies are at least psudo-turn based, and for that you can count all the other Console style RPGs.
I'm sure there are many many more.
Personaly I like my strategy games realtime for the most part. When the game gets to a more epic scale (Ascendancy Master of Orion, Civ), I like turn based games. They haven't dissapeared to the best of my knowledge

The things is, I think Turn based is the best way online. That way you aren't penalised for being too poor or in the wrong area to have a decent connection.

Silent Storm is the only recent turn based game i've seen, and it was possibly one of the most enjoyable games i played last year with fully destructable eviorments and tons of ways to approach certain situations. Definately a very underrated game and i wish it had multiplayer, would have made it 9000 times better.

Turn based games will always have a special place in my heart. Civilization, X-Com, Jagged Alliance, Fallout...such great games.

I have yet to try Silent Storm because I can't find it in any stores. I'm probably just going to order it online.

I don't know if Baldur's Gate fits in the turn based category, if not then it has to be one of the Heroes of Might and Magic games. Very enjoying games as a hotseat :)

no. pretty sure its up-front turn based like HoM&M, not behind the scenes turned based like D&D games.

Tactics Ogre: Let's Cling togheter , for the PSX , one of the best games ever made and certainly the best turn-based one.
