You know the deal.
It has been 2 years since last time, despite it being annual, and I was wondering if it is possible to play Paper Mario well.
I tried glide64 with the glide3x wrapper, but framebuffer effects were unplayably slow and the menu ones were also ugly.
So my question is : is there a plugin that does not put ugly rectangles around stuff, does emulate at least some of the framebuffer effects at considerable speeds (i don't care that much about menu effects... but it would be nice...), and that's it.
I hope emulation has improved in these 2 years.
And I feel like I should insert the general yada-yada you heard thousands of times about how great the emulator and the plugins and their coders and this board is/are. So here, I did :p
Thanks in advance, though, I really mean it.

I'm not rude.
I don't really appreciate VDDZ's two responses (i say something doesn't work, he just says that it works for him without any meaningful content, twice).
I'm sorry if I appeared a little rude to you, moomoomoo.

i didn't think brilliant was being rude oO maybe in overly formal god-save-the-queen merry old England he was...but here in the US it's ok to correct someone ;)

anyhow, i did some searching:

http://www.ngemu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60090 (i dunno if that helps)
http://www.ngemu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54536 (wtf nevermind??)
http://www.ngemu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46227
http://www.ngemu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37695 (those are basically the same)
http://www.ngemu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41434 (this one seems good)
http://www.ngemu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39950 (an oldie)

good luck. you might just have to do what i do for PSX games--fiddle around till you can get your own answer.

i got it to work decently with a beta version of evoodoo glide wrapper (may be outdated now). But you're pretty much always going to have issues with this game.

i FINALY got Paper Mario to work after much trials and tribulation and i remembered reading this post before
if the problem your having is the flickering then use the rice plug in in opengl mode
and change the frame update to at first CI change it gets rid of the flicker but i not being all that experienced with n64 emulation don't know if there will be any bad side effects

since the tread has already been resurrected....

The newest Glide64 "Wonder" Edition plays Paper Mario Flawlessly on my system, with extremely minor graphical glitches (I had Toad Trees once) and minor slowdowns. Use all default settings and the Hactarux's wrapper and you're good to go. Played through the entire game without any major problems.

Note: "Wavy" text (like from ghosts) slows down the game terribly. Switch the resolution down to speed it up until the wavy text goes away.
