Using Pete's OGL 1.5 plugin to run Megaman 8. Everything runs fine fullscreen at 1024 X 768 at 60 fps except certain sections where it slows down by about half. I narrowed the problem down to the texture filtering option and moved it to option 3 from option 5. I was just wondering, what is texture filtering dependant on most heavily? Is it VRAM speed and amount, GPU power, or system processor frequency? I'm running a P4 2.5 GHz with 512MB DDR PC2700 RAM with a Geforce MX 440 with 64MB SD-RAM.

Just curious...

thanks,

Chip

Personaly I'd suggest using PEOPs GPU for a 2d game such as that.

so in any case, since you have (slow) SDRAM on your card, it's not going to do you well. in fact, in some games (FF9 in particular at the menu screen) putting filtering at 6 killed the performance on my old FX5600. so sometimes...you gotta turn down some options.

Ok, thanks. I'll keep that in mind. To be honest, I mainly just enjoy playing the Megaman games because they are 2D, and I have no real drive to get a better video card (at least for right now). If I can get a 128MB DDR VRAM card for a good deal I might go for it, but until then I'm content with Megaman :)

Well...GeForce MX 440 is pretty worn out. Maybe a gfx card upgrade?
read what he already said ;)

Maybe that's the problem. Some detonators are faster than others and the 28 or 32 or something like that are faster for your card IIRC.
Sorry, but I don't quite follow what you mean here. You are suggesting that the latest official Nvidia drivers could be problematic?

actually, yes. the newest Forceware from Nvidia are designed for those leet new 6xxx series in mind, so they contain optimizations for those cards. the 5x.xx drivers were concentrated on the FX series. and so on and so forth. so for a GF4 you'll have to go back some versions to find the driver that is better for your card. newer isnt always better.
