(CNN) -- Three explosions shook the Egyptian city of Sharm el-Sheikh and a nearby resort area, killing at least 30 people and wounding 107 early Saturday, the Egyptian Interior Ministry said.

The blast at the city's Old Market was caused by a car bomb, the ministry said.

The causes of the other two explosions -- in a parking lot and at the Ghazala Hotel, both in Naama Bay -- were not yet known.

Egypt's tourism minister, Ahmed el-Maghrabi, said the facade of the hotel was destroyed, and a taxi driver said the blast severely damaged at least one other hotel, all packed with tourists. Dozens of visitors and other taxi drivers were waiting at a shuttle bus stop when the bomb went off, he said.

Sharm el-Sheikh and Naama Bay are popular destinations on the Sinai Peninsula. Sharm el-Sheikh is also where Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas announced a cease-fire in February. (Full story)

The blasts occurred around 1:15 a.m. (1015 p.m. GMT Friday).

A Ghazala Hotel employee told CNN she felt the whole building tremble after hearing a huge explosion. She said guests were being transferred to other hotels and police have cordoned off the area.

Video from Nile TV showed men at one site carrying body bags to emergency vehicles, and other bodies covered by sheets or blankets amid debris on bloody ground.

"We are trying to comfort those touched by those explosions," el-Maghrabi said. "These groups, those criminal groups, will never be able to steal the right of people to move and travel. This is very unfortunate."

One couple was rudely awakened by the blasts.

"My wife and I were asleep and, basically, I just woke up because our house is made out of glass doors, and simply the glass started shaking really hard," said Ahmed Mansour, who lives in Sharm el-Sheikh, 7 kilometers (4 miles) from Naama Bay.

"I personally just thought it was an earthquake. So then my wife woke up and I just told her, it's probably just an earthquake, so just go back to sleep. Fifteen minutes later, I started to get phone calls from, basically, people asking us if we were alright," Mansour said.

"And then I switched the TV on and basically heard what happened."

Mansour said he and his neighbors were shaken. His neighbors went to his house because they didn't want to be alone.

Mansour's wife works at a dive shop. He said the busiest part of the tourist season is beginning, but "I don't think there's going to be high season here this year."

A physician at the Sharm el-Sheikh hospital, Dr. Adel Taher, told CNN that he has treated at least 50 people injured in the blasts, but said he has not personally seen any fatalities. He said every available doctor in the area has come to the hospital to assist the blast victims.

Lucia Gregoiia said she was at a bar with friends near the Ghazala Hotel when they heard an explosion. They went to the door and were showered with dust and smoke. She ran toward the beach and away from the crowds to seek safety, she said.

In October, the Taba Hilton and nearby camping areas around the Egyptian cities of Ras al Sultan and Tarabeen were attacked, resulting in 34 deaths.

CNN's Alphonso Van Marsh and Arwa Damon contributed to this report.

So the insanity continues. Anyword if this is related to the London Bombings?
This isn't the first time. Taba's dissater wasn't so old. It was in the same year.
I don't know what to say. Terrorism is a big word. It's cowards doings. They hit and kill before they run away. You can't kill terrorism, it has no army. It's just like gangesters. They have no heart to strike. I wonder what are they trying to prove by killing innocent people.

I'm not afraid to die by them anyday, but I wouldn't stand to have my dear people killed by them.
I'm not saying that Bush is right in his war against terrorism. He's a criminal aswell. He's killing innocent people. Terrorism isn't a country.
seems to me they have stepped up a gear in their attacks.
This may be a coordinated attack to make every country that supported the US in the Iraq war feel fear or revenge against them.
It could be that the terrorists are trying to plant paranoia into the people of these countries, if those countries seggriate Muslims they can use that to justify thier foolish cowardly acts and recruit more terrorists.
If I was guessing where would they strike next I would say that the next target could be Isreal in a crouded street during rush hour in Jerusalem and one more in a hotel near to a US embasy.

I was thinking the same. But Romania supported the US in Iraq, and up till now no terrorist attack or threat has been made (we`re actually on the "safest coutries" list.). Maybe because we`re an unimportant 3rd world country not worth (the money and effort) to plan a terrorist attack.
In any case, I`m glad to hear you`re okay cloudvii.

I mean i know bush isnt the smartest guy in the world but you cannot say that he is killing innocent people, because you know they went in to look for weapons of mass destruction...well what do ya know, none was there. And now we are working on rebuilding the country now that Suddam is out of the picture right. So to think that OUR troops are going in and just shooting people puts our country to shame and whoever thinks that should be ashamed, because that is not what we are doing. We are rebuilding the country, were not taking over the country or nothin, rebuilding it is what were doin. And you know if there ever was a case were we were to attack another person, usually the case is the Iraqi' is probably attacking us.....havnt you watched the news, a large majority of the killings in that country is SUICIDE BOMBERS, not us.... and as i said b4, u kno bush is a dork at times but hes tryin to fix s**t and the least u all could do is atleast give us some support so we can get the job done, and get our troops back.. i have a lot more to say but i guess i can leave it off here...

GOD BLESS AMERICA
patriotic phrases of any class won't take you far on this forum, just a piece of advise
wait a minute, america is rebuilding iraq, in what way, structurally or economically. No way is he doing it economically. their currency has shot down ever since the war started and i dont see why america would rebuild iraq anyway. it would cost billions to repair the damage done by invading iraq and by the sucide bombings.

I honestly bet that if he had said "viva la mexico" or something to that effect, you wouldn't respond that way.

I would have said exactly the same. Patriotism is an oudated idea that has somehow outlived its time. The effects of having to carry its corpse are pretty obvious.

... so what did I win?

PS: Spanish is not French, we do not use articles for countries :)

Taking away your freedom with Patriot Act, to me it means that the terrorists are winning, because that's exactly what they want. They don't like freedom, and by committing terrorism they want you to be scared. If people are scared, it means the government or rather "those in power" can pass any laws they want as long as it means people feel safe, even if it means giving up all your rights. Without any rights you are not free, meaning you have no freedom.

You can either be safe, or free. It's very likely if you choose to be free and start encrypting your harddrive etc, you could eventually be labeled a terrorist. This is why they are passing laws that allows them to wiretap you without your knowledge, check what books you rented at library etc.

Luckily we are still somewhat free in Sweden, but I'm afraid it's getting worse day by day.

There's alot more going on than most people think. Sure there is alot of conspiracy theories aswell, but who can honestly say that they know exactly what is true or not these days?

yeah dude i wasnt tryin to pull of some propaganda trick, lol, i just decided to put that in there, it wasnt so i could pull u into what im sayin, i was just puttin out my perspective on whats goin out there, i didnt miss nothin u said, but it also isnt gonna effect me for future advice because i wasnt totally serious when i said GOD BLESS AMERICA, i just thought id put it in there....anyways, i wonder what they have against americans anyways in the first place, just picture b4 9/11...
Well yeah, maybe I went overboard. My point was just that

a) Trying to sound as if the world owes USA something just because they are doing their moral obligation after messing up in a craptacular way is somewhat... silly...

b) Feeling patriotical in this time and age is just not... right... then again we still have many other things like supernatural believings, superstitions etc so I guess it's not the worst out of the bunch... but it was not really against the USA. Just patriotism for any given country.
You still think they hate freedom that is what's wrong about the US effort to stop terrorism, in some of thier minds they are fighting for thier freedom, the reason that there are suicide bombers in Iraq is that the US invaded and some people feel like thier freedom have been violated, you can't rebuild something without destroying it, the US may have rid Iraq of one tyrant but made another equaily nasty one in the process

Umm. Do you know that in Saddam's era, ppl who got killed were way less than the number which got killed since the invasion of your blessed america?

Look man, I'm not against the americans, I'm against the policy, Bush's using. He invaded in the name of a big lie, which he knew it was.
why hasnt no one mentioned the oil, isnt that why they are still there, the oil for food programme?
