tekken 3

Hi, this is probably a dumb question. I've tried a couple of Tekken 3 isos, and everytime I finish the arcade mode, the game doesn't return to the start screen after the ending movie, thus cannot be saved and new characters cannot be unlocked. Is there something obvious I'm missing? Thanks.
