Hello all with careful saving the game and restoring I've been able to get up to this point in FF8.

I've noticed a few things that happen:
1: The game sometimes locks up when Quistis pulls the gate control.
2: After the gate control scene with the sorceress being traped temporarily comes the Squall and Irvine scene of Irvine freaking out. Here the text Pallete sometimes gets wiped out (interesting to watching with Kazzuya's plugin too).

I believe what causes the problems with FMV's is the switching between 24/16 bit per color mode done. It also looks like the pallette for the text messages is wiped out with some stuff. This could be from writting to much data. EN E HOW.

I would like to get past this sequence.. suggestions?

On no, it's FF8 all over again. Vietnam-like flash backs.. trattattata, code shooting at memroy address 0, new special effects using subtractive mode, layered background that breaks up... ..messed up palettes !
Argh..

..ok I'm calm now 8)

Does it happen with every GPU plugin ?
If your assumption of MDEC being the problem is correct, then probably plugin authors can't do much about it. But it's still worth taking a look at it.
I got FF8 USA version, but I never played that far. If you think it would be useful for me to take a look at it, could you give me either a memcard save (FF8 USA) or a savestate ?

force color depth to 16 bits
Simple stretch

Petes Soft GPU as well all have the same problems>

i played this game in bleem a while back and had no problems (there was a compatibility issue with the final boss but never got that far).
im guessing your disc is farked. can you pass it on a normal psx?

Disk is fine I was on Disc 4 on my PSX so no problems there.
It seems to be a problem possibly with the GPU.
It locks up tight at certain points..


Kazz.. bad Kazz you should play the whole game it's great!
But I know you are a busy man with better things to do like play Tekken tag.

Thank you for the memcard and the explanation. As I said privately, I'll look into it as soon as possible.

Regarding playing FF8.. it's a long long game that takes long long time.
Also it wouldn't be as exciting for me.. working on the PC version was a big spoiler..
I'm used to have the masterful testers hand me the memcard saves with all the items. Without that, I doubt I could ever had checked the final battle to the end... that battle is rough !
