no chance. this genre doesn't sell very well nowadays. sega won't even port the arcade spikeout and slashout to any console.
actually sega is going to port the Sor series in sonic gems collection(jap version) for gamecube.
However if Sor4 comes out do u suggest it would be good to be 3d and Cell Shaded? Cos i know of 2 ppl who are planning on making a sequel, at this poin one has maded 2 characters with few animations in 3ds max, other is learning to program in 3d .

Most of the key staff from the original SOR series moved on to create "Fight Force" (original, not the sequal) for the PSX. They then went there seperate ways.

It's rumor'd that the Sonic Gems release was to have SOR here in the US. Yet, those were squashed. I'm still hoping for a "Sega Ages" release of them. Then, we can have another compialation of Sega Ages games, as we already have.

sonic gems jap version has SOR2 in it afaik. The US version won't, due to a different rating system etc. Also, the sonic gems jap supposedly has the original sonic cd soundtrack.
I ordered it from lik-sang, should be arriving in my mail by the end of this week or so :)

Ever heard of Beats of Rage. Its fan made game that is compared to Streets of Rage.
Here's a link for a download: http://senileteam.segaforums.com/ or if that doesnt work you should find it through google
I know it, but I wasn't too impressed (well, it's nice for a fan effort). It isn't nearly as good as the original SOR's though ;)

SOR4 could be kept 2D but with enhanced cell shaded graphics. And even if these type of games dotn sell nowadays, i think the streets of rage name would be enough to sell it, take driver 3 as an example. all that advertising and promotion is what got it to make money.
Oh and does anyone know about the man who composed the soundtracks to streets of rage, Yuzo Koshiro??

Probably the only way a 2d side scroller beat 'em up would profit is from a handheld like the PSP or DS imo.

The SoR name is popular to us. It's common for older gamers, heavy gamers and so forth to know that name. Yet, nowadays we are the minority. The public knows Driver due to the sucess of the GTA and the playstation era. I would hope it would sell well do to name, i'm just afraid most people would just pass it by. I think it be no differnt if "Final Fight" were to release a game.

Beats of Rage is great. There's a good amount of mods out there for it. One of my favorite being the Robotech mod. I believe someone here on the board was even creating a NGEMU game using the BoR engine.

I love Koshir's work as well. The opening song of SoR II is a great mix. http://www.ocremix.org/game/80/ is a link to a large amount of remix's as well as the soundtrack for listening pleasure. I recently bought the arranged album from Amazon on a buy 3 get 1 free deal. It's a excellent piece of work.

well if yuzo was on board if sor 4 was created, i think it'd be a great game for a side scroller. if u take the first two sor games, yuzo managed to compose great music that ran perfectly with the game. Yet in sor3 he wasnt composing the music, just supervising a man called motohiro kawashima.(or summat like that), which is why it was the weaker game of the megadrive series with a less exciting soundtrack. Sure itll need a big tune up just as street fighter did when it introduced 3d graphics. But i think with Yuzo Koshiro on board, along with the original programmers, sor4 would be a great game.
I dont think people would pass by a game that was successful alongside the sonic series. if sor4 is properly promoted, it should do good.

http://tokyopia.com/tk/archives/000108.php
the movies are likely maded in 3ds max but have the detail for a dreamcast. I dont know what happened to the project.
And these drawings are from the guy who is making the graphics in other fan sequel which is in early development right now,and we don't know how much time we need to complete the first playable demo but will post any shots ;)
