strange slowdown problem

For some reason, when I play games on ePSXe at first they run fine. But then maybe about two minutes for so later, the games start slowing down and the sound gets kinda static. Does anyone know how to fix this problem. Or can someone give me the settings they have on their emulator that lets it run perfectly?
