Hey guys a couple days ago someone got into my Steam account. I've got it recovered now, but half my friends list has been deleted. I hope the person that hijacked me didn't do anything bad to you guys, be sure to add me back if I haven't sent you a friend invite(like 20 unanswered invites right now lol).

They can get the GCF (if still used, that is) files for the games for free, which they can use in most steam emulators to get the games for free, with witch they can post for other people to use.

@Exodus no once you register them. You can only give away games, that you have in duplicity.

You can't give many "duplicates" away either, IIRC it's limited to Half Life 2, Episode 1, and maybe Episode 2.

Most of the games you get duplicates of you don't get to gift.

For instance if I purchased a pack of Mumbo Jumbo or THQ games and already had some games from those companies, I couldn't gift them.

What's really nasty is if a guy steals your account and gets it VAC banned, then say goodbye to online gaming for the WHOLE ACCOUNT!

A bit further than that actually. If they log into your account and download the games or have a copy of them already on their computer(in Steam you need a copy of the game installed AND registered to your account), then they can play all your games for free, or be ****s and get you banned from VAC(online play). Fortunately I wasn't banned from VAC though.

Looks like the hijacker tried to reset the password, LOL. I got an e-mail on the account that I changed steam to saying I had requested a password reset and had to enter a code LOL.

Hell if I know. The information, contact e-mail, etc. was tied to my older brother who wouldn't be giving out ****. It's all good now though, I've transferred everything to my information.

There are supposedly attractive-looking rogue servers where scripts can decrypt the hashed password from a local steam file and send it to the server, without anyone noticing a thing or using cheats. Think 'achievement servers' or garry's mod ones.
