SPTD layer (Alcohol, Daemon) and drive performance
The SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD) layer from DuplexSecure, is quite known to cause performance issues with some drives/systems. For that reason, ImgBurn also gives a warning when it's found present.
For example, with v1.58 that comes with Alcohol 1.9.8.7612:

The new version 1.62 seems to fix the Burst Rate issue, and lower the CPU usage back to normal.

Therefore, if you're using Alcohol Soft, Daemon Tools or another software that uses it you should consider updating it. The updated version can be downloaded from here:
