I got a hold of the demo for the new SC: CT game due out in March. The demo is by far the more amazing looking games I've seen ever. It uses advanced graphical features as HDR, Virtual Displacement Mapping, soft high resolution shadows, and other cool video effects. The game looks amazing in motion, but it definately needs a powerhouse system to run with all eyecandy on at Super High Resolutions like 1600x1200. HDR is quite a performance hog and doesn't allow you to use FSAA, but virtual displacement mapping doesn't take much of a hit at all. Although it's quite noticeable in a lot of places. Without it, textures are flat. But with it enabled, things actually look like they have some form/depth to them. The demo also allows you to use SM1.1 or SM3. No SM2 it seems. The SM3 mode allows you to enable the HDR and VDM effects.
Enough with the short rant. Onto the screens. Hopefully the full game with more optimizations will run better, but at this moment... Well, you'll have to see the screenshots with my FPS counter.
1024x768, 16xAF, All ingame options maxxed, HDR, VDM, High resolution SHadows, Soft Shadows, ect.. ect..
