Very nice screens!!! I am downloading the demo now and see if it can run at all on my spec.
The demo has the option to turn off some of the more performance demanding effects.PrTv said:Umm HDR , VDM ,soft high resolution shadows , sounds like my system can't handle it :hdbash: :hdbash:
It's out in some PC magazines.cooliscool said:Err.. is it even out yet? The demo at least.. why tease?
Funny, I've got both games and enjoy them equally. Metal Gear is more story driven with an emphasis on the main character. SC is story driven as well, but not much on the main character and more on elsewhere in the game. However, I do like SC's stealth gameplay mechanics more than the Metal Gear games. Seriously, how can a sentry not see you 10 feet away standing in front of them in a lit hallway? And of course it's always had better graphics on the PC incarnations.sims said:The SC series to me is always a poor man's excuse for Metal Gear Solid. They focus too much on stealth and little on story which is why MGS will always be better.
I don't think anyone was comparing it directly to D3 or Far Cry. Each one has their own styles which I enjoy. Doom3 is all about shadows, Far Cry is all about flashy graphics(especially with HDR), and Chaos Theory has elements from both games. I don't think D3 or Far Cry is smooth at full effects on most systems. Doom 3 is more of a tech demo than either game IMO. Chaos Theory looks amazing in motion. The shadows are soft and hard. Not always hard like D3. They also managed to use Parallax Mapping on almost every wall and rock surface which makes the illusion of depth very realistic. Something which D3 and Far Cry haven't managed to do.sims said:Now as far as graphics, I don't think this one is any better looking than Doom 3 or FarCry. Perhaps I have to see it for myself, but from the screenshots, I don't see anything that can beat D3. The shadows aren't even on the same level nor is the environment size comparable to FarCry. Granted there are some nice shader effects going on, but I rather play a game smoothly than watch a tech demo.
Have you tried running Doom3 or Far Cry on an Xp2200 GF4 system with full effects enabled? Runs even slower than the SC games did. SC 1/2 ran fine on my Geforce4 ti 4600 and my Fx5900. Even with full effects enabled. Granted those games still don't look quite as good as D3 or FC, but they do run a lot better. Also, what FPS do you think the Metal Gear games ran at? The original MGS on the PSx ram in mostly the 20-30 FPs. MGS: Substance on the PC runs around 20-30 fps with all options enabled on my ti4600. I'm not sure why you're complaining about 20-30 FPS in a slow paced stealth game anyways.sims said:One thing that pisses me off about SC series is their overrated system requirement. I don't understand how the 1 and 2 second one manages to crawl at 20-30 fps on a xp2200 gf4 when they can't hold a candle against either D3 or FC. Considering that they're just running on the UT 2k3 engine, there's no excuse.
I've got the full game on the PC. I'm on the 3rd level. Where are you stuck at?Metalmurphy said:Anyone got the game yet? Im having a blast playing it in co-op for the ps2 but im already stuck on the second mission. I have no idea where to go oO
i thought rather the opposite, mgs was pretty cheesy in a lot of parts, a stealth based game should play more like the way sc does as opposed to carrying a box over your head cause the terrorists apparently dont know better. Granted i only played metal gear 1, i thought that only some elements of the story were good, and the rest was like out of some 80s arcade game, and the names, i dont even wanna get started on the names of the characters in that game. Anyways, mgs aside they seem to have put up the production values of this game. Even the commercials on tv look awesome for it. I haven't been checking much on the latest release list but i take it that this game is out in stores? yes?The SC series to me is always a poor man's excuse for Metal Gear Solid. Yep. I got mines online. It's the collectors edition DVD with an extra DVD with videos of the developers and trailers.Strider said:I haven't been checking much on the latest release list but i take it that this game is out in stores? yes?
