Speakers ontop of computer? safe?

Just wondering if it's okay to have speakers from a stero ontop of my comptuer as a stand. I have two older speakers that seem like they are encased well. I think one is 60W and the other is 50. I don't think the magnet would matter that much, but just making sure. Thanks

Hmm..I'd be careful. Usually the magnet in the speaker isnt as harmful as say....a magnet you'd put on your refrigerator. I've seen people do this before and they didn't have problems. so I'd say your ok.
on top of the computer case? probably no harm at all. they may or may not be electronically shielded, but the magnetic force that creeps through is nothing (has to go from speaker-->outside of speaker-->computer case-->into your computer). if you want a test, turn the speakers on (and playign something) and put it next to your monitor. the stronger the magnetic field, the more distorted the image on your monitor will be (if you have a CRT).
Alright yeah, I remember I have to move my speak before because it was making my monitor turn off for like a second here and there. but I think it was the one on top so it shoudlnt' matter. Is there is anything I could put between them just to make sure/make me think it's okay?
if you're really afraid, go down to fry's and buy a mousepad. depending on the size it's 2-5 dollars and it should provide enough of a boundary, plus it will make your case scratch proof.

but all in all, you have nothing to worry about ;)
O___o mousepad for blocking a magnetic field???

i must learning some really bad physics then ...
A mouse pad? *gets out his old micky mouse one from like 92*

i suppose i was just trying to illustrate the point that it's already safe enough :p besides, putting 1/8" extra adds a little more distance...

seriously dude there is nothing to worry about. i had a powered subwoofer that was unshielded, and i noticed no problems in my monitor unless it was like 3 inches away.

another example is my friend's desk, it had a monitor on the left, a wooden partition, and directly touching that was an unshielded subwoofer. there was no magnetic interference.

trust me dude. you'll be fine. just dont be rubbing your hd's on it.
I kinda figured that, I just liked the no scratch part of it. I like my blue cheiftek case. It's still my favorite design. haha
