Yes, it seems Sony is gearing up to rerelease PS2 BC after they resolve some speed and compatibility issues. Maybe they should get in contact with the PCSX2 team. :/
Anyway, 60GB NTSC PS3 FTW!:thumb:

unlikely they will neuter PS2 disc support should they follow through with re-introducing backwards compatibility, they didn't with PSone discs so no reason to do it to PS2, but that is good that they are proposing to have games available for DL.It may instead indicate that Sony is going to start selling PlayStation 2 games on PSN, rather than letting gamers play the games they already have
That was just a joke.Somehow I can't envision Sony being friendly with emulation authors if you consider what they did to Bleem! and the PSX emulator they bought out to prevent it from selling.
Sounds good enough to drive people into a frenzy. I can see Sony execs talking about this seriously in a board meeting until someone with a little common sense pops up and says that this is a stupid idea.BTW this snippet doesn't sound good?

Agreed. PS2 games are still being actively developed by a few companies and many retail outlets still sell brand-new copies. If Sony can pull off software BC (and do it properly) there will be one more incentive to move up to a PS3. The PS3's upscaler for PS2 games looks really nice on all of the PS2 games that I've played on my PS3. I get hi-res graphics with better compatibility than PCSX2.unlikely they will neuter PS2 disc support should they follow through with re-introducing backwards compatibility, but that is good that they are proposing to have games available for DL.
who's to say they haven'tMaybe they should get in contact with the PCSX2 team.

Doesn't the hardware-based PS2 'emulation' just scale everything up? I.e.: Not a real improvement.Yes. I've tried out all of my old PS2 games and they all run flawlessly.
I've tried out a few of these same games on the 80GB software BC PS3 and ran into numerous problems with some of the games, hence my *and do it properly* remark.
yup. All HDTVs have scalers as well, but lower end models probably don't compare to the ps3 upscalers.Doesn't the hardware-based PS2 'emulation' just scale everything up? I.e.: Not a real improvement.
640x480 at 720p is still 640x480... scaled to 720p.
at least MS has a compatibility list... and the games that I tried run well on the 360 (being DOA Ultimate, Shenmue 2 and Outrun 2)I'll believe it when I see it. They dropped it a long time ago, and knowing Sony they'd be beating their chest by now saying that they did what Microsoft wasn't able to pull off. Also, I'd rather see them create a PSP emulator for it, that would allow PSP games to be downloaded and played in higher resolution, adding online play. I'd get a PS3 only for Monster Hunter already.
And STILL it looks better on Dreamcast, damn they butchered that version... :???:
Please provide some backup for that statement. All I've seen are court cases won by Bleem because they weren't doing anything wrong from a legal pov.Skoreanime said:Oh and Paratech, there's a big difference between the Bleem authors and the PCSX2 team. They don't blatantly rip off of Sony's coding, rebrand it and sell it for profit.
Yeah but the scaling isn't very impressive. A software based solution like what PCSX2 has going on would be great if it had good compatibility.yup. All HDTVs have scalers as well, but lower end models probably don't compare to the ps3 upscalers.
I hate it when sites try and compare 2 pictures to each other by doing a screen cap and then putting the images "side by side". If one side is a screen cap @ 480i and the other is @ 1080p, then one of these pics was resized and doing so will introduce artifacts and bluriness (depending on the resize filter used). Who's to say that they only took a screen cap from the games as run on the PS2 and put a PhotoShop layer of half of the pic, adjusted the color a bit, and added some mild gaussian blurring? If they wanted an authentic comparison, both pics would have to be shown at 1:1.
