One day, during a thunderstorm, our power went out for a few seconds, but came back on. I noticed, when I tried to open some programs from shortcuts on my desktop(like Avant Browser, and MAME) I'd see the hour glass for second then it'd go away and the program(s) wouldn't load. I tried clicking the source file and the same result. I don't really use Avant(I'm more into Firefox), but MAME32K I use pretty often to play games. Same with ePSXe. I have to reinstall them everytime after I reboot to get it to run again. Once I shut down and power up again, the program doesn't start when I click it anymore.

Is there anyway to fix this? I'm using Windows XP Pro SP1.

Any help would be grealy appreciated. Thanks! :guitar:

This is why my computer has its own little back-up power unit. But really... in theory losing power shouldn't damage anything unless you're moving around files or doing something related to changing important data... on the other hand, try telling that to the computer after its mercilessly destroyed itself :p.

funny isnt it? self destruction of a computer makes the user suffer more than the computer itself. I wonder if computers laugh at their hopeless users who are ripping out all of their hair because nothing is working anymore...

I'm not going to blow money on a power back up.:p

I need that money for my Acura Integra.

Anyway, I'll try the system restore and see what happens. Any other ideas?
