A while back someone in an irc chatroom posted some links to wikipedia that contained sexual images/content.
I was pretty shocked when i found out wikipedia would host such things.

Today I stumbled upon more sexual images on wikipedia by accident (was just clicking random words i wasn't familiar with xD).

Here's some examples (warning contains nudity)

Anyways, what are you people's thoughts on this?
I don't like it for the reason that its easy to stumble upon this stuff while innocently browsing wikipedia.
It doesn't give a warning or anything, and its NSFW material on a site I generally would consider safe.

Discuss! xD

I don't know actually, but they should at least put some sort of censorship or warning on those images in case of kids "accidentally" find those images in wikipedia.

Also cotton, your sig is a bit too big. You might want to consider trimming it down a bit.

You should have made a pool :p, but on topic no i don't find the images disturbing since there role is not eroticism, and to stumble upon those kids or whomever searches needs to use those key words, in other words you have more chances stumbling porn on google image search then those being accidentally accessed.

Meh, that's nothing compared to what kids have access to on the internet nowadays. And those are far from pornographic or anything like that.

Like strike105x said, you can find much worse on google. Should google be closed?

google attempts to block pornographic websites.
safe search is even on by default.
with billions of sites, its impossible to block them all though.

anyways, these images are more graphic than alot of hentai thats out there for example (alot of jap hentai censors the 'private parts').

i don't really think people need to see a picture of a blow job to know what it is; the fact that everyone here seems to be saying worse is easily found on the net shows that wikipedia posting the images is redundant.

anyways that's my opinion.

You should have made a pool :p
i thought i would be able to if i edited my post later, but just tried and i can't :(
oh well...

I think its okay for wiki to host them... Even if some kids stumble upon them, so what? I found my dads porn when I was 7 and look how well I did!

...Okay, bad example but seriously I doubt any kids would have more than laughs or moment of akwardness in seeing those images. Its just some stupid belief that kids turn into something totally terrible if they see something like that, especially as that's not even porn! Its just factual knowledge, search penis or vagina on wiki and you'll find also some pics alike but they too are just knowledge and not porn. There is a difference!

Yes wikipedia should have them. Its a site with a philosophy that everyone should have access to all the knowledge in the world. Sexuality isnt a bad thing and shouldnt really be censored.

When you have sexual images and data easily accessible to minors, it give censors and parents the ammunition to block and restrict access of many parts of the web to children.

I'm a fairly liberal guy when it comes to adults, I see no reason consenting adults should be denied doing whatever *sick or depraved* sexual activity they want with other consenting adults, but when it comes to children, I think parents have the right, until the children are 16-18 years of age to control the data kids can access.

I get fed up with the government intervening and messing with children, often corrupting their innocence and exposing them to unhealthy and sinful behavior. If a parent wants to do that, it is the parent's role to be a guardian, and as long as they are a fit guardian, it is their responsibility to protect their children until they are mature enough to make adult decisions regarding their behavior.

Here's what I think: Drawn diagrams are okay, while explicit pornographic or home made photographs are unnecessary. Wikipedia's purpose is to be neutral and objective. Any media pertaining to these activities should be clinical-style diagrams; something that displays or describes the activity in question, but being posted without the purpose of arousing anyone who views it.

Now when it comes to the various old artwork (paintings, sculptures, etc) that's found on these pages (which, as Exodus pointed out, is pretty much most of what you can see here), I think that's necessary too. It's important to inform people of the history of the subjects as well as to give examples of the roles they played in various cultures in the past.

So far, both cases have been met in all the pages I've seen.

So its okay for the parents to ruin the childrens innocence? Like parents who brainwash their kids into extreme religious zealots, make them believe in extreme ideals or making them into racists by giving them only the "data" they think the children need... Yeah, that's a good idea... In majority of the cases where children got f***ed up in the head its because of the parents, not the enviroment. People just tend to blame everything else but themselves, like violent videogames, movies or like in this case sexual content.
