Prepare yourself... Shining Force NEO Website it's so beautiful

If this game lives up to my expectations then Final Fantasy better watch out. Sega might just dig themselves out of the rut they have been in.

Check out the site and trailers, The trailer with this image is awesome :thumb: (cant direct link to video)

The in-game looks amazing, lots of bright colorful textures and of course the cg/anime cutscenes are nice also ;)

yeah i got the trailer a few days ago. the game looks quiet impressive with its cel-shaded graphics. battle system is also interesting. they were fighting like 15 enemies at a time oO like star ocean 3 but much faster. i got the trailer with this japanese song about 4 min long. oh and the site is great too :thumb:
I so far spit on Shining Force Neo. I'm sorry for the supposed touted Shining Force rentry. The game that shatters the SF series back to the fore front. I'm disappointed by the route they've taken.

Good bye SRPG, hello action rpg. Shining Tears which I have as a import had given me alot of hope. I loved it' style and gameplay, but a game touted as the true sucessor to SF original. SFN, does not make that game.
I'm partially displeased... if it is going to be an Action RPG rip-off of games like Seiken Densetsu then this game is going to be crap, specially considering how good the SRPGs counterparts were. However, I don't see the fact that they are trying something new as such a bad thing... again, if it's going to be something new. Guess time will tell, luckily by the time this game is released outside of Japan I'll have my own PS2 to try it out...

thats all its going to be. like the majority of PS2 games. god damn action/rpgs.
so i guess you guys prefer turn-based RPGs.......
Perhaps, perhaps not... I'll wait to play it in order to judge it. If the company would have a precedent of letting me down I'd be inclined to your side... since that isn't the case I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.
i just find action/rpgs to become the most monotonous of all the rpg types. they'd have to be like 15 hours to prevent the boredom from stopping me from playing to the end.
Praise the devil it's an action rpg! I can't stand turn-based and command-based battle systems anymore. Since the largest amount of time in an rpg is spent in battles, why not make the battles fun?

The majority of rpg's on the ps2 are action rpg's? Since when? The only action rpg for the ps2 that comes to mind is Star Ocean 2. Everything else (Final Fantasy, Xenosaga, La Pucelle, etc) seems to be command-based.

Action rpg's are boring and monotunous? So selecting commands for hour upon hour is better?

very true indeed turn based RPGs are more monotonous as compared to action RPGs. i have a friend who actually fell asleep playing LOTR:The Third Age :D and i don't think its right judge a game before it even comes out

well, you have all 4 of the /hack games, dark cloud 1+2, dual hearts, kingdom hearts, fullmetal alchemist, x-men legends, and evergrace 1+2. then, if you want to consider 1st person ones, there king's field and eternal ring. and those are the ones off the top of my head. then again, my definition of action/rpg may be warped, and too broad. but anything that isn't turnbased rpg, is action/rpg to me.

well, all i can say is that i played a bunch of the highly rated champions of norrath (with another player, for added fun...) and it was painfully boring after a while. whether or not you want to go and call that one a "hack and slash" and not a "action/rpg" is up to you.

and if i were given the choice of hours of menus and hours of bashing buttons, i'd choose menus. i like my thumb.
Hmm..we also are torn..The game does look beautiful, but it may be a hard pill to swallow from gamers such as us who were weened on the Strats from the Genesis / Megadrive days.

However, we are indeed hopeful.....If they can take an turn based RPG like Phantasy Star into an Action genre (not sure if we like the term Action RPG yet), then we are willing to give Neo a chance
The RPG genre in general should have more variety like this. Turn based is what most people are used to and have a hard time liking different styles.

Action RPG's seem to be growing in popularity with developers. Tales of Symphonia had a really awesome battle system IMO, also the upcoming YS: Ark of Napishtim has a great action system aswell that is great from the demo I played.

The battle style in RPG's that I buy dont really effect my decision to buy it. I thought Kingdom Hearts was going to be a huge disaster but turned out to be one of my all time favorite games.

I don't find the combats in action RPGs to be anymore monotonous than the combats in turn based RPGs... the only difference is that usually Action RPGs are less plot oriented. However that is up to the company... I have good hopes for this game.
Seeing as how it's Sega, I'm hopeful this will be dealt with faithfull. I too am a little dissapointed at there not being a new Shining Force SRPG, but given that I have the Nippon Ichi titles to play with, I don't think I'll want too much for SRPGs
well, i guess all we can really do is hope. one thing for sure thats good is that they're not calling it shining force 4. this game can be seen as simply a spin-off, and is following the trend of the rest of the shining games that have been coming out.
I don't know and I don't care. As long this new shining system could shine me brightly, SEGA will have my gratidute :thumb:. Can't wait for Shining Tears though :).
Shining Force Neo is actually not a spin-off. It's being considered the reinvention to the series. I understand why they would do this. Camelot, the original creators of SF, had a fallen out with sega. They ended up creating the Golden Sun games for nintendo and you can see where it actually has some shining feel.

It's not just the gameplay that has me bothered. They've taken alot for granted with charcter designs and even plot with this SF. If you don't follow me, I'm sorry. I've been a die-hard SF for along time. I suggest if you love SF..just go read the MB's or posts by the Number 1 rated SF sight out there..

Star Ocean 2 is for PSONE... Well I don't really like SF's but this looks good... Might as well try it out, once it comes here....

I understand what your saying but are you sure that this is the reinvention of the series? I havnt read that statement before, although I loved the SF series on Saturn I am still really looking forward to this game.

Could be great for the series or just another one of Sega's flops. We'll see :)
