"shell" folder for XP's Themes

Just want to know what the shell subfolders for visual styles do. Themes seem to function fine without it oO

those styles are stored in that folder? well... those default ones are

The Shell folder is for if the theme isn't packed in the theme file. The Theme file can reference the images externaly, IIRC.
