Sorry not a secret, might help some people 
When I first download the latest version, I can't play some game that I play on older version. So I download the latest with front end and fix some config. in front end, which help me play all the games again. Here how I conf.
just pick all the video, sound, cd drive, mem, bios
then in option I check mark everything on sound setting, and CDsetting
start EpsxE GUI (which is important I think)
MISC. check on MDECs and MDEC timing.
It help me play some games better. Hope it work for ya
