s3 savage 4 + directx8 + epsxe

sorry to bother you folks but it appears that my s3 savage 4 is not supported by directx 8 and even though epsxe 1.4.0 runs, it runs real slow. i was hoping to try out the cyberpad using my older computer which has the card in it in a lan setup.
anybody has any suggestions? i have uninstalled directx 8 and installed back directx 7 which comes with my win2k but it appears only the direct draw function is supported.
is it only me or does it happen to all s3 savage 4 card owners. pls enlighten.
