AS some of you know, I purchased a new PS2 for my nephew (5 yr old) and niece (9 yr old) few days ago. Can you recommend some PS2 games which aren't too complicated and can be played easily by kids? Any educational/informative/learning/cartoon characters related games will also do.

Hmm i can't think of any other more suited then GTA XD.

Okay being more serious other then The Typing of the Dead i don't really know any games suggesting that criteria, still to be honest i think your doing this the wrong way games are meant to be fun & recreational not "educational/informative/learning" they'll have enough of that in just about a year (actually the "poor" niece already started school though so the last thing she needs is some more informational crap shoved up her throat so my next recommendation would be Okami, but first you should see if there's any game they want to play. Sorry if i speaked my mind to blunt.

PS: be sure to read the spoiler :p

Maybe the Sly serie, Ty, Spyro, Rayman Raving Rabbids, ones such as these?

Ty, the tasmanian tiger. Generally feels like a mix of jack/daxter and crash bandicoot. If I had to pick for youngster, I might find this serie not inappropriate, followed by Rayman Raving Rabbids (RRR a good value for family-friendly entertainment).

Legend of spyro ('darker' than the first ones in the serie)

Sly serie (cell-shaded games revolving around anthropomorphic 'thieving' action)

Being a Tennis fan yourself, why not get them Virtua Tennis 2? The first opponents are pushovers.

I don't know much about educational stuff, but you may want to look into disney games, stuff based on cartoons. Remember that they are blank slates, they'd enjoy interactive fishbowls as long as it is made up of pixels. You can easily let them play games that we would qualify as crappy, like recent Sonic titles.

Taito Legends 1 and 2, Atari Anthology, Activision Anthology, Namco Museum 50th, and Sega Genesis Collection, if they can't enjoy the games, it will be ok to beat them!

Ok, it won't be ok to beat them, but still, no more games if they can't enjoy these games!

Right i would recomend the classic arcade packs

the ones such as the Capcom Classics Collection and the Sega Mega Drive Collection, come on, its classic gaming and its better to get them started young.

There probably aren't many truely educational games for ps2. If you want educational, get them an old win98 based system. There were hundreds upon hundreds of educational/fun games back in the 90s. I don't know of any 'truly' educational games for ps2 for kids.

But for pc there are plenty

Number Munchers, Carmen Sandiego (series)... etc, and any game where you run away from Michael Jackson is educational as well.

You really don't get it, don't you?
The "ratings" are in conjunction with violence, drug abuse and visual sex.
They never had anything to do with childs understanding them at the mentioned "rating age".
Edit2: A game only understandable by people 18+ ... heheheheh.

Edit:
@Prafull
Really sorry, but I can't remember the PS2 for being "kid-friendly" with all those "teeny-splatter" games and the vast amount of good RPGs.
For me the PS2 ever was a teeny and adult console.
If someone wants something really kid-friendly... go get a Ninteno DS.
