Like the title says, wich one is better? I recently bought 1GB DDR at 400 to have a 1:1 ratio. I was expecting it would reduce some of the 1sec freezes i've been having in several games but it didnt help at all. Now i have 2x512 DIMMS at 333 and 2x512 DIMMS at 400. I already tried having all slots installed and just the 2 at 400 and didnt notice any diference at all so i ask here. Wich setup is better?

I would just buy another 2 512's at 400. If you can't afford it try selling the 333's. The setup with all four is pointless, after all why pay for 400mhz when its not gonna run there? Though depending on how much memory you actually need ....

If you need the capacity, use all four (or get another 2 400's)
If you need speed just use the 1GB (or get another 2 400's)

In conclusion ... get another 2 400's :p.

I would i just dont have the money for it right now :p

What i mean was in overall mainly for games, is speed better then capacity? I noticed that in BF2 it seems to be so im using the 2GB now

you would benifit a lot more from speed than capacity.

1gb ddr400 wouldnt be much different from 2gb ddr400, most programs/games wont use more than 1gb anyway, so reducing the speed of the memory is going to bottleneck it.

and the freezes are more likely to be your hard drive loading textures, if you have an old one anyway, or it just needs defragging :p

Hum i allways thought the HD would only affect the first load of the game, not actually during the game. Arent the textures and stuff like that all stored in the load?

Couse i do have a kinda old HD, an ATA 333 (i think) Seagate 7200rpm

WOW! That's fast! lol. You mean ATA 133 right? Not really THAT old. You should upgrade to a SATA though ;) .

yeh, i should explain.

not all games load everything at the start, you find with some games they load on the fly as well as the initial load. As you come across new monsters/areas/textures, it will attempt to load them while ingame.

its purely a way to save memory, unless you want a 4gb game loading all into memory at once? :heh:
