do you need to have vsync turned on for fsaa to function correctly?

i asked this because whenever i turn vsync off on geforce256 i get some major speed boost with fsaa.

infact vsync should be turned off under some recommandation i read somewhere before. it really speeds up epsxe when fsaa is turned on.

been my setting for a long time. nothing seems wrong so i left it off permanantly.

Pete Bernert, the GPU author was the one who said to turn off Vsync. He posted it on the old boards a while back.

Just to point something out abou vsync...

Vsync is not bad in any way when playing games. Only when benchmarking. vSync limits the FPS to the maximum your monitor will allow. So if your refresh rate of your monitor is 70hz, the video card will only render 70 frames per second. This will give you smoother image quality because you will not be missing any of the frames.

This makes it so having vsync off and no fps limit is just like having frame skipp on but rendering the skipped frames. But i guess if you have not fps limit and its running at 170fps, your doing that for a reason.

I just wanted to point that out about vsync...
