Question from a Mac User.

I have read many threads/posts, FAQs, Forum Rules, and searched the internet tirelessly, but I cannot find a solution for my problem, so here it goes:

I currently have a Macbook Pro running Leopard 10.5.7, 2.6ghz intel core 2 duo, 4gb Ram and a Nvidia 8600M GT Graphics Card (Which might be my problem, I realize that this isn't the latest and greatest of the cards out there).

So I setup PCSX2 and configured it to the best of my abilities and decided to run a graphically intensive game, MGS 3: Snake Eater. I loaded the ISO, started a new game, and tried to skip the opening cinema but it would freeze. I restarted, tried to let it run it's course, it would get a little bit further but would freeze before the game could even start.

I checked every compatibility list I could find and most of them said that MGS 3 was able to run. However, I don't know whether it was tested on a PC or Mac. I checked for a Mac compatibility list, but couldn't find one.

I know PCSX2 is unstable on Mac/Linux compared to PC, but my question(s) is/are:

1) Are there any graphic/sound/controller/etc. plugins for mac that I have somehow managed to miss that could help me out?
2) If not, and if PCSX2 is too unstable on Mac, could my system (based on my specs above) at least run it through virtualization software like VMware? (I have Windows XP on VMware)
and Finally
3) If you were able to get MGS 3 (or other graphically intensive games) to run, what did you do (Plugins, settings, etc.), and what is your system configuration? (OS, comp specs, and so forth).

Thanks for taking the time to read this, I appreciate any assistance.

Well, i've tried to get Dark Cloud to work because it isn't graphically intense, but sadly I can't even get that to load. I get a "Dummy transfer" string going and then it crashes with a "Segmentation Fault". I have no idea what causes it.

I've tried multiple configurations for the mac version of PCSX2, but I just can't get it to load. The .iso just keeps crashing, so I don't know what else I can do.

Sad thing is, I could at least get MGS 3 to load up until the first cinema.

Any idea what might be going on?

I would try Bootcamp, but I don't have the hard drive space to really do it at the moment. Thanks for the warm welcome by the way.

EDIT: Could it be a Bios problem? I think a PAL Bios is required, but the .iso is NTSC

I really wish I could. I can't spare the HDD space for Bootcamp and I don't have an up-to-date PC. At best, I can only virtualize windows.

I know running PCSX on mac and ePSXe through Crossover are far different than trying to get PCSX2 to run properly, but at the moment all I have to work with is this mac system (I lucked out getting every other emu to run at an acceptable speed, this one is by far being the most difficult).

There are hacks available on this version of PCSX2, but i'm sure that and the plugins are nowhere near as close nor advanced as they are on PC.

I just thought that there is someone else out there that has a similar set up and has been through something like this. Maybe even found a temporary fix or someway around these problems that could help me troubleshoot. I'm just stuck with using this system and I can't seem to find a solid FAQ for these issues.

So besides trying Windows, any other possible solutions?

I'm sorry if i'm being a pain, but i've been able to comprehend every other emu and emu architecture. I'm struggling with this one for OS X.

Gah. I didn't see that mac section before, how observant of me. I guess I was just doing a mad rush search on Google (which is how I found this forum).

Thanks for pointing that out, Silenus. Many thanks.

If anyone else has any suggestions, tips, or possible solutions, i'm still all ears.
