Help! I have no idea what I am doing and have everything ready to oc my machine!

I only want to push it a little. Mostly I am trying to get better speeds with pcsx2. At the moment I am getting about 80% speed in pcsx2

I have a Q9400, Gigabyte P43-DS3L and a Big Typhoon Cooler for the job!

Can anyone give my some lessons in OCing?

woah, you've got the same board I do o_O...

cept mine is p35.

ANYHOO.

Google is good for this sort of thing but for lack of better circumstances; OC in 200mhz increments. Keep tabs on how hot your CPU runs on full load and run benchmark programs like Prime95 and Superpi to make sure you are stable; I'd say around 30 minutes to be sure. After you've reached what you'd call "not wanting to kill your PC", benchmark for a good hour or just get lost in a game of Crysis for a few hours or so or until your PC starts to hate you(i.e. begins to show signs of screen flickering, you get high temperatures-around 65 degrees C, windows errors; things of this nature.)

After any of that happens, back down about 100mhz.
Enjoy.

Indeed. I am working on it now!

You said to go up in 200mhz increments, but its only at 333mhz now.
200mhz would be too big of a jump am I right?

I have a stable 3.2GHZ at the moment!:thumb:

By stable I mean it is running pcsx2 fine! Still need to get some tools to test it fully

Just ran 3D mark and got a score just shy of 14,000 :D

@3.2GHZ I so far have had no probs and temps are not going above 61 degrees celsius

Congrats on the new hw. Really nice upgrade from your AMD. Probably going to end up going with a quad pretty soon, this old E4300's showing its age despite it outlasting (in terms of time : performance) every other CPU I've owned.

I'd wager that 3.2GHz is hardly what that chip's capable of. Keep us posted. ;)

Thanx mate, It was indeed time for an upgrade!
The old AMD 6000+ was struggling to do high end emulation!;)

I tend to agree with you in regards to how much it can be pushed. Just am unsure as to whether I should seems I need 2 years out of it!
3.2GHZ was achieved without a hitch at all!

After a reboot I actually noticed that temps are now not going over 25 even when running pcsx2 or creating a DVD with NeroVision!
I am honestly stunned by this! Right now with just firefox running its only 18 degrees

Max FSB on this MB is 1600mhz (According to the box) so I should be fine I think!

mine is 1333... So much for my 3.5ghz shoot to the moon. I run it at 1334 so it doesn't stay at 2.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999ghz
