He's still alive and present.

If there were only signs that it was still in active development. I don't doubt that it's still being worked on, but since the last update was a long time ago, it makes you wonder if he's still working on it. Last I heard, he was implementing PS2 emulation in pSX, but who knows.

i too wondered about the website.

as for active development, he announced in june 2009 (if i'm not mistaken) that 1.14 is almost ready, that it will concentrate mostly on ps2 emulation and that the mac port is finally done.
i've been waiting ever since, after the announcement i deleted my bootcamp partition because all i used it for was psx...

pSX isn't dead, I think. But the Author doesn't have the time to release it yet, and I believe he lost a little of interest.

The official page just disapeared without warning, and I don't know if it will be back anytime soon...

i cant see the point of asking if the emu author is still doing updates and thats with any emu author, unless they visit this forum that is, it is not as if we know what someone else is doing, its all speculation which boring and annoying... why bother asking when you know perfectly well if there is any news from the author you will find it here...

you have to remember that last we heard of the psx emu author is adding ps2 support, which is a massive task to undertake so it is no surprise there is no releases yet, considering the authors track history, he wont release anything until is easy to use and perfectly playable, like the psx initial release, so if that is the case then expect to wait some more as ps2 emulator takes allot of time, heck look at psx2 progress and it started before psx and it had a group of developers too...

it is not as if i dont want to hear progress on the great emu and to hear from the author, but hey i rather think it is discontinued then to hope for another update at least until there is some official word

Don't care about a PSX update as long as that aspect ratio 'problem' (top+bottom black bars even on ntsc games: wtf?) isn't fixed.
Also: bilinear filtering sucks.
Want better filters or even scanlines simulation.

If these aren't gonna be fixed/added, then v1.14 can be released in 2020 for all I care. :p

hmm, well, if all things go south i hope pSXauthor releases the source code, pSXfin is just too good to die, especially because of the integrated .CDZ support and the beautifully simplistic and friendly GUI

I love pSX, can't see how it can be improved except for maybe adding an NTSC filter like bsnes. But like pSXfanatic I hope he releases the source code, this emulator should live on forever on many platforms.

MYSTERY SOLVED

i had to use a proxy in order to evade the ban given to me since the "member pruning" on the pSX boards... anyway, when asked if he had abandoned pSX or if he had sold it to Sony, pSXauthor said the following (about six months ago):

No, it hasn't been sold to Sony, or abandoned. I've just been extremely busy with work for quite a while and haven't had much spare time. And in what little spare time I have I haven't felt like doing yet more coding ;).

I will try to find time to release pSX v1.14 soon - its basically pretty much ready - including a MacOSX port.
apparently v1.14 is mostly focused on PS2 emulation and a few fixes to the already excellent PSOne emulation, however pSXauthor is now a big-time programmer for a mainstream (very much mainstream) game company, so he has very little spare time for us :(

(btw, does anyone know pSXauthor's actual gender? i always refer to him as a he >_>)

<pSXAuthor> its a different machine now - i just haven't gotten around to re-uploading the site
<pSXAuthor> will do it soon
<TruthUnkn> Ah.
<TruthUnkn> Alright.
<pSXAuthor> actually - i don't even have access atm - i'll ask my boss to re-enable my account
<TruthUnkn> Can one expect a new version too?

oops :emb:

i kinda glanced at it but didn't pay much attention to it due to the lack of a source or something along those lines.

anyway, it's great to hear the man/woman is alive and well, my only question now, is if pSX will be able to play PSOne games with PS2 texture-smoothing like the PS2 console did, that would certainly be rad :thumb:

I will have to give this a go when I get off work. This is my first time noticing another PSX emulator besides PCSX and ePSXe. This seems promising.

Too bad it hasn't been updated in a long time, just like Zsnes.

How functional is it compared to ePSXe? Does it do about the same? I still havent gotten around to testing out pSX yet, I have been playing other games and forgot. i thought u didnt care much for Znes since its not as accurate snes9x?

It's easier to config as there are no plugins to mess around with, but it's comparable to ePSXe when it comes to how many games run. The graphics use bilinear filtering, but not as crisp. The author was supposedly working on PS2 emulation, but hasn't been hear from in years.

O ok, thanks. Besides the factor of having to use external plugins, which were relatively easy to choose them, (although the video plugin took some trial and error to get set right) I never really had any gripes with ePSXe. What other cons would make someone want to dismiss ePSXe as their primary PSX emulator?
