Hi, I'm looking for a playstation controller that I can use for my PC. I was wondering if anyone knew a good place to get a controller and converter.

On the converter:

One thing I've noticed is that most converters don't have 64bit driver support. This means that if you upgrade to a 64bit version of Windows in the future, your converter will no longer work properly (if at all) I have 2 Radioshack PSX to USB converters and they work great, but now that I'm running Windows 7 64bit, I've been able to see firsthand the troubles in going 64bit. There are no 64bit drivers available and there won't ever be any because Radioshack no longer makes that converter any more.

Instead, you might want to look at getting a PSX look-alike controller like the Logitech Rumblepad 2. A wireless version is available and it has much better driver support (including 64bit) unlike most of the crappy drivers that often come with a converter.

i picked up a $10 converter from walmarts and it works just fine on a 64bit os cuase i was using it on windows xp pro 64bit to test out dolphin and psxc2 and it worked perfectly fine for both but the problem was my computers not up to snuff for them go figure.

gameon i think its what the convertor says on a sticky on it and its a universal usb convertor for ps2 gamecube and xbox controllers

thanks for the replies, so should I get the rumblepad from logitech or a converter/psone controller? Money is not a problem as long as its not over $50.

The Rumble Pad 2 is nice, but still takes some time to get used to. The analog sticks are a bit "taller" than the ones used on a PSX/PS2 controller, so you have to move them a bit more to equal the same travel distance on an authentic PSX/PS2 gamepad.

On the other hand, you can pick up that converter at Walmart for $10 and just reuse your PSX/PS2 gamepad. No need to get used to a new gamepad by doing this.

Wouldn't a ps3 controller be a better idea since it's an "official" controller? Just an idea.

Not really. The PS3 controller only works via USB. Even so, it's only through unofficial drivers that are only available for 32bit OSes.

Besides, they're expensive.

Nope.

Sony is, afterall, one of the least consumer-friendly brand names out there. Even if they did offer official drivers they would likely suck. I don't know of any Sony brand software that I can honestly say is good without biting my tongue.

Personally, I think this is the way to go. I use a Saitek P3200 pad, which has the same button layout as the PlayStation controllers, apart from a button to turn the analog controls on and off. It also comes with the rumble feature. I'm sure you could get something of a better overall quality, but I picked this one up when I first got my laptop for about £10, and I've never had any problems with it.

If I was to buy one of those converter (PSX USB) things compared to a regular PC controller, would there be any difference of say performance? I am more so interested in playing RPGs on ePSXe.

No difference in performance. A converter is desirable because instead of trying to get a near match, you can just use the original controller.

and the usb drivers don't even work properly most of the time......
