Hi guys,
Recently my friend got a PS2 with the famous "disc read error" and a really noisy case fan. I'd like to ask if you guys know a reputable place to get replacement for the fan.
I've heard of the disc error and I'm going to search for guides to fix it, but if you know a really good one please do recommend. Thank you.

A nice Google search will land you a good guide for DREs. As for the fan...We opened ours up and took a look. It looks like something you could fix easily.

The again...we have Fry's Electronics over where we live...it is a wonderland for parts and geeks. We are just a geek in training

I first landed on this guide: http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/hardware/ps2.ars
Detailed instructions along with good pictures, but it mentioned nothing about cleaning the lens, only adjusting the height. Then some other place one person said using rubbing alocohol will help while another said it could damage the parts. Anyone have experience on this?

edit: Found a FAQ on IGN and followed the instruction on cleaning, after that it reads PSX, PS2, and DVD discs happily. Now just need to get the fan fixed.

As far as the fan, yeah I have Fry's at my place too. The PS2 I'm messing with right now is secured by two screws at the center of both sides, instead of the four corners like PCs. Do you know if Fry's carry such fans?

Thanks.
