Pretty new to the whole emulation scene, I haven't even gotten to test successfully yet. My sound and cd plugins and whatnot seem to be working fine, but none of the video plugins I have tried are showing up, so I assume they are not compatible with my Graphics card (an SiS) is there such a plugin that is "generic" and works with all video cards, or something compatible with them? I looked over countless google pages and faqs but have had no luck. If anyone knows how to fix this problem that would be greatly appreciated. My system is a widows xp home edition with a 1.69 GHz processor and something like 480 MB of RAM, if that helps. Please respond asap

they dont show up in the list when you try to select one to configure? are you launching the emulator via shortcut? if you are the "start in" field in the properties menu of it is probably incorrect so you need to modify it manually so it is looking in the directory with the executable in it, otherwise it will look on the desktop for the plugins.

Thanks for he quick reply, I'm not really sure what you mean. Here let me retype the problem.

When I go to the configure wizard it says that it was not found in the plugins folder, despite it being in there.

Does that help?

what i mean is when you want to use epsxe, do you launch it from a shortcut to the executable on your desktop or do you just launch it by clicking the executable directly?

if you are doing from a desktop shortcut, its likely that "start in" field is not actually looking into the directory where the executable is located, and when that happens the emulator will not be able to detect any plugins and in some cases the BIOS as well, it ends up looking on the desktop for them. basically when you try to configure the plugins it will give you that message about it not being able to find them.

right click the shortcut and select "properties", then look for the "start in" field and modify it so it is looking into the correct directory that the executable is stored in.

edit- if you still need help with doing what i have suggeted just read over the thread below because the user in there was having the same problem i am suspecting you have run into, i included a pic of my shortcut with what area needs to be modified highlighted so it should be pretty simple to fix (dont type in the exact "start in" field shown though since thats my own directory path)

I think I did this correctly, you meant to put the link of the plugins into the "start in" field right? I did that and I got the same error. Am I doing something wrong?

On a side note, I WAS launching it directly from the folder but tried what you said and made a desktop shortcut.

I bet I'm doing something wrong.

you want to configure it to look in the root (main) directory, the plugins folder is just a sub-directory and does not contain the executable so linking to that in the "start in" field will not work.

"C:\Program Files\Emulation\Emulators\ePSXe\epsxe170"'

what is not in bold is what you want to link to (the main directory) in the end, everything before that is my custom path to it so you need to replace that with whatever the path to your own epsxe directory is. think of it as a manual re-direct sort of thing.

This isn't directly related to this topic but I didn't want to start a whole new topic. I've had a bit of a problem.

The emulator has been working fine, but the game and sound are only at about 90% speed, it's not unplayable, but it's really annoying having everything lag a bit. Is there anything I can do that will make it just a bit faster without having to buy more RAM? Like changing some options in the configuration? Also, does a game usually run faster if it's from the realy CD in the drive or as a ROM?

playing from an image will generally reduce loading times and possibly eliminate stuttering that occurs when the disc is being read from the drive. it will not however, inrease frame rates.

if you want to have better frame rates you either need to upgrade your video card, get a faster CPU, or modify certain settings. for the most drastic results you are going to be doing a combination of all three. can you post a screenshot of how you have your plugins configured?

yeah just a shot the config menu for the video plugin so i can see what settings you are using. can you also tell me what the brand and model name of the CPU you have in your system is?

edit- use this if you do not know.

I don't have a camera on hand so I can't take a picture, but I'm pretty sure all the setting are on 0 or 1 (pretty much lowest setting I think)

I have a Windows XP Home Edition (2002) Windows Service pack 3 manufactured by Powerspec, 1.69 GHz. Processor, 480 MB of RAM, and I just downloaded and update for my video driver or whatever, it's an SiS 650 card. Not sure about my sound card or anything.

You don't need a camera to take a shot. Just press PrtScr on your keyboard and paste the image onto your favorite image editing program.

Btw: If the question about screenshot was directed to me I meant the location of the plugins.

The CPU and RAM are fine for ePSXe. Buying more RAM won't help (but may overall in general, as 480MB is pretty low, especially since it appears that onboard GPU taking 32MB of it from your 512MB total). It's the onboard GPU that's the weak link and hurting the performance in ePSXe.

You can fix this, though, without hardware changes. You need to get a plug-in and configuration that your system can handle.

First, if you're using version 2.9 of Pete's OpenGL plugin, which I'd suspect you are, switch to version 1.76. I know it sounds like I'm telling you to go with an outdated plug-in, but the 1.x and 2.x versions are really separate lines from one another. OpenGL2 needs a decent GPU. Try the OpenGL (1) plug-in, and give these settings a try.

It's your choice on full screen or windowed, but if you're using an LCD, I'd go windowed.

If that's still too slow, try either the Direct3D or P.E.Op.S Soft Driver.

Note that the latter uses software rendering, so the image will not be enhanced via hardware effects. It'll look like it does on the actual console.

It may also help (but isn't totally necessary) if you list which game(s) you're trying to get working, as some work better with some configurations.

Really sorry for the late reply.

The only game I've used so far (pretty much to test it) is Medal of Honor from a disc in the drive, but I'm going to try FF8 and Gran Turismo soon.

I will try as you say, if anything has problems I'll post back.
