This has probably been asked a bunch, and if so, i apologize...

I am playing Final Fantasy 9 in my CD-Rom drive with the actual game, so I have two questions...

One: When I start the game, it doesn't play the opening movie, but the menu shows up. When I try to start the game, the long opening movie it cut off except for one little part on the left, showing a little of what is happening... Should I get a different BIOS or something?

Two: If I am using the actual disc, will I be able to change discs when it comes time?

My computer specs are roughly 1.2Ghz, 256 MB RAM, DirectX 7 Graphics, and tons of availible hard drive space... I am running the game with P.E.O.p.S Soft Driver 1.4, SaPu's CD-Rom plugin, and Pete's DSSound audio plugin.

You could have searched. There is a search button at hte top right of hte forums.
First off: have you tried basing your settings off mine?
Secondly: have you got the latest vid/sound drivers?

IIRC AdriPSX hasn't changedisc support, so i suggest you to use a more developed emu, like ePSXe or PSXeven. AdriPSX hasn't been in development for quite long, so don't expect it to be added, at least anytime soon.

I solved my problem by switching to ePSXe, but now the in-battle menu, where I pick my attacks and stuff, doesn't show up!

im having this same problem. im running ePSXe 1.5.2 (after switching from 1.6.0 because it seems to not like ff9), and switching between plugins, i can either get the FMVs to work (with the E}I{'s Soft Driver 0.98 gpu plugin), but the in-battle commands wont show up, or get the battle commands to show up, and only get sound during the FMVs (using the Pete's DX6 D3D Driver 1.75 gpu). now, ive been to kanes domain, and look at the config there, but not eveyone has a good enough computer for those specs (in fact, my computers crap; im suprised it runs ff9 as well as it does), so i think something a little more helpful than " have you tried basing your settings off mine?" is needed

my specs are: Pentium 3 CPU at 1 GHz, 256 MB RAM, intel integrated audio, intel 82810 gfx controller (only 4 MB)

for my emulator, the best config i had so far was: ePSXe 1.6.0 (yes, it worked), Pete's DX6 D3D Driver 1.75 gpu, ePSXE Core spu, SePu CD-ROM Plugin 1.0

Well, keep 1.5.2, as the latest version has known bugs that affect FF games. I'd suggest getting updated drivers for your card, and try again with pete's DX6 D3D 1.75. Try kane settings, using framebuffer textures to 0, and frambuffer access to 4. Failing that, i suggest you to use PEOPs gpu plugin, it will probably work fine, but at the cost of looking ugly (well, as ugly as in a real psx ;) ).

Actually Gimpy, Kane's site helps people with crappy computers too. He gives you OGL and OGL2 configs, the latter for higher-end comps/gfx cards. Darthblob gave no confirmation of whether the settings on his site helped, and it is often the case that people don't bother checking his site.

It's probably because he (Darthblob) had frame-skipping on or something. I have a P3 1Ghz laptop, 256mb ram, so pretty much same as yours, and OGL works fine. To keep the game at the right speed, I had to lower res to 640x480 and run from an ISO. I also completely reformatted my hd and defragged and ran xp with minimal services, background apps, as well as lowering all the display settings, so that might've made a huge difference.

hmm, im still having speed issues. it starts out at 59.9 fps, then drops to 17 - 22 fps when i start playng. ive tried all the resolutions in windowed AND full screen, ive set my settings exactly how yours were, and even followed the "speed issue" advice underneath, what is left. i may just have to go back to a setting i used earlier in the night; i cicked on the "Fast" button, then altered it a little bit. i may not have seen the swirl, and it may have taken maybe 1 or 2 more seconds to load the battle, but i was playing. so unless theres anymore tips, thats how im gonna have to run it

btw, i did make sure anistropic filtering was off, and i THINK i did that with fsaa too (unless its NOT antialiasing like i thought), but im not sure

i did, however, go back to ePSXe 1.5.2

Changing Framebuffer Textures to 2 or 3 and setting access to 3 Will move the work for swirls from your CPU to the graphics card. Note: using this method battle swirls will not work if FSAA is enabled

yes, yes, yes, i assure you, i have tried everything in my knowledge, ive read, tried, and retried all of your settings.

but, i got it into my small brain that maybe the cd that came with the card didnt have the most up-to-date driver (it came with 60.85), and sure enough, i found 66.72. so if updating my drivers doesnt work, oh well, im tired of it, and im just going back to the best config ive had thus far. thanks for the help

Ok, new problem.

After I leave Dali, and get on the airship, the FMV plays. Then, like halfway through it, it freezes and stops playing! This is with Kane's config and ePSXe... Any help?

ok heres what i did with my crap computer

i took out the mx 4000 card (financial reasons) so im back to my old on-board 4 MB chip. first thing i did was i visited kanes site to find out that i should try and rip the ISO using Frontend from <a href=http://batard.psxfanatics.com]this site to take care of any speed problems that might arise (note that if you do this, for some reason the memory cards wont work, at least not for me. so youll have to use savestates). nexti just went through trial and error with all the plugins. the best config i found is Pete's D3D Driver 1.75 to these settings.

then i used kanes spu settings, and the cdr settings i said i had back in my original post. basically, you are NOT going to get killer graphics, and there will be some lag (mostly in battles, but im still working on that, and will post it if i can), and there wont be a swirl going into battles. but, its been running fine for me, and thats why i just bought the game; not for the graphics (though the fmvs are nice, but theyre not psx quality), but to play it. the only problem ive had thus far is when all my RAM gets exhausted. but other than that, its all good. im at lindblum after the festival, and have watched every FMV so far with no crashing

a word on savestates: make sure that your game is saved (toggle with f2). this is common sense, but i found oout the hard way :x

and common sense should also tell youdont push your card and stuff too hard. go for the second best, or third best settings, this way you can get more play time out of it in one sitting

oh yes, use ePSXe 1.5.2

my appologies for this being so long, and if the links dont show up right, but a little copy and paste remedies that

Don't rely solely on savestates when playing a multicd game. Have you got the "memcards" subfolder in the epsxe folder? Make sure it hasn't the "read only" property set, nor the memcard files in it.

you know, yes, why didnt i think of that already?

how exactly i check all this?

also, it saves fine, and it shows the file in the folder, but when i try to load it, it doesnt load
