I installed VBA link to be able to trade in FireRed but for some reason the save states don't get recognized. in VBA the files are called .sgm and apparently in VBA link they're called .sg1
So I tried changing the name to .sg1 and it actually does load the save state only that the whole screen is blueish and the game crashes straight away.
Can someone help?

The files are called:
Pokemon - Fire Red Version (USA).gba
Pokemon - Fire Red Version (USA)1.sgm
Pokemon - Fire Red Version (USA)2.sgm
Pokemon - Fire Red Version (USA)3.sgm
Pokemon - Fire Red Version (USA)4.sgm
Pokemon - Fire Red Version (USA).sav
Pokemon - Fire Red Version (USA).sa1

....Better yet. just use the import battery option, since states don't work properly with linking.

Thanks but I gave up on my save files (I wasn't that far along anyway)
I've still got a problem though. When I open a second VBA window to trade, only the first one gets the save states AND the in-game saves. the second one has to start from zero (pallet town) any ideas?

I think you mentioned that in your post above. What did you mean with "import battery" sorry if i'm being a noob thx in advance

in the File menu > Import battery.

the Second VBA-L window requires the save file be named *.sa2 for batteries and *.sg2 for states, Importing the battery file handles this automatically. as long as its done when 2 processes for vba are open.
