Hi,
I (as nearly every 2nd Poster here ;-) )
am having a Problem with Final Fantasy 9.

I managed to get it working quite well(some flickering during MDEC Videos but anyways).
Now before entering the "Black Mages Village" on CD2, there is a small Video Sequence running - the followed-after BlackWizard lifts the Dead Forest Illusion and enters the Village, Party is following in.
Then the Illusion comes up again, over the whole Screen, that is excatly the point when everything closes.
;-)

After closing you can read the follwing in the Dos Box:

opcode 3c UNK <PC 0000080> <1092933,302>

The numbers within the <> may vary, but it is nearly the same message everytime.

I am running the Game directly from CD.
Graphics : Voodoo3-2000

I am using the following Plugins:

Null2's Audio Driver 1.3

ePSXe CDR ASPI core 1.0.1.

I am normally using the EPSXe Save States, but when changing between CDs i also used Game-internal Savegames.

I had this problem, but at a diffrent part of the game... What i would recomend is loading your save state before the part where it locked up, save your game... then exit the Emu...

Next, go to your Epsxe memory card directory and rename the "temp000.mrc" and the "temp001.mrc" (i think that thoes are the names of the files) and name them like your other memory cards... Then go into your config and make it so epsxe uses thoes new cards that you named..

Load your game off of thoes cards and it should work..

I followed your advice.
Unfortunately it didn't work.

I still think its a graphical problem, since this is the first time this kind of animation appears in the game.

But i thank you for your help.

I tried every Software, D3D, OpenGL and of course 3Dfx Driver I could find, still the same problem.

I really have no Idea...

I think i had a similar problem and maybe you couldtry a variant to dan's solution. it seems there is a problem with savestates in ff9 so that at a few points in the game, normally right before some of the video sequences the game will lock up. so what you can do is go to the world map before you enter the forest and save. then press Esc and goto the EpsxE GUI, goto the menu 'run' or something where you can select 'restart', do that without exiting then load your save game. from then on don't use savestates till you're past the part where it freezes, this worked well for me. I'm not too sure with the error code, but you can try pete's CD plugin which has some good features. best of luck.
