problem with epsxe

when i play a game for example vagrant story,and i press escape it goes out to the menu then i try to continue the game and i get an error and i cant continue the game only if i start the emulator again now with this game its not a problem but it will be in multi disks games
anyone knows whats the problem?

epsxe cause the illegal operation
i have a amd 850 128 ram
gforce 2 mx
creative soundblaster
atapi dvdrom star2000 x12
