Parent jacked priviliges

I've been without enjoyable use of a computer for about 4 months. No pearpc, no Project64, no ngemu, no pron. They have also jacked my xbox until the end of the school year. I have not failed any classes but have gotten 1 D the entire year. They say they just want me to graduate, which is commendable, but I don't need them to take my **** away to have incentive to graduate. I want to so I can go to college, but they don't friggin' listen...

Anyone else have parental frustration?

erm....parent problems are off limits here. Either everyone here will tell you to hire a hitman or complain to DCYF for child abuse :heh:

I'm not gonna lie or try and make you feel any better, but you got some pretty defensive parents (expecially during these times). At most my parents will only rip out the cable modem for a day or 2 if I really piss them off
That sounds familiar. I notice that the majority of my friend's parents realize that it's up to the student to pass, not to the parents.

..... Are parental topics really forbidden here? What the hell happened to this place? That's like banning hugs in a middle school;hehe.

LOL....no it isn't :D

All I can say is to try to make a compromise between your parent. Most of the time parents forget the deal in a week or 2, and then you're home free :p

Haha.. that sounds overly familiar. My mother is extremely, extremely nagging when it comes to marks (I remember, when I was in Junior High, I got scolded and grounded for about a week (no computer >.<) because I dared to get an A- average for one of the month ly evaluations :p)

Even today, when I'm in uni, my mom will keep complaining about how the computer has made me stupid because I get the "pathetic" average of 9.4... (and hence she is not invited to the semester excellence awards for those who get +9.5 :p)

But anyway I've got used to it, and she can't actually ground me from the computer anymore since every school work I do involves a pc... however when I see my younger brothers going through this I get the shivers (and they get it much, much, MUCH worse since they dare to get a plain B+ for average :p)
My mother had the habit of forbidding me to play my video game (a Master System, at the time) during school days. This was a very dumb prohibition, anyway, since I never studied for any exams. She also liked to hide my sci-fi books (I loved those Perry Rhodan books).

My parents aren’t particularly liberal, nor are they particularly progressive. Fortunately I’ve outgrown their counterproductive methods a long time ago.

As for your own parents, you should follow Kirby’s advice. Resistance is futile
My parents tried to keep me away from consoles so I'd study. They said games are only for little breaks in between studying:rolleyes:. They also sent me to various tutoring places so I could graduate, even though I probably didn't need them. Parents always worry about their kids, although I think mine were more worried about the family image (in asian families if you fail, then the entire family fails). It seems a little extreme to take away all forms of entertainment though. I find a game now and then helps keep the stress off, and as long as you have your priorities straight I don't think it hurts to have computers and consoles around.
Yes. Without a computer you will wither up and die I'm sure. WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO!?!?!?!
heh, they couldn't even ground me from the computer. 1 year after we got a PC, i already outmatched my dad AND mom in skillz(11 year old). they tried to use some programs to limit my power on the pc... i just removed that crap :D

Anyways, make your parents clear that removing everything you like, will NOT improve your scores ;)

[edit]
of course, this means that you will just stop learning all together, to make clear that their way of enforcing things will just make things worse ;))
"Stop messing around and get your (semester) paper done for Monday."

"Take care of the dogs (as puppies, they decide to have accidents every five minutes and go eat whatever they want) for five hours while I pick up soda cans."

I'm lovin' it. But yeah, your parents went a bit nuts.

Hehe, my parents have to depend on me as well, as they don't know a thing about a pc, except for doing their own stuff. lol, my dad sometimes even askes what a certain message means when online.
Ofcourse I did tell him to ask me whenever something pops up so that he doesn't screw up without me knowing it :p

My frustration is kinda over but I do know what it means to really hate parents. But that's a total different story. IMHO you should try to make clear to your parents that taking away your pc doesn't help you. Being stressed and unmotivated isn't good for your school results ;)

Luckily I can say I'm kinda blessed with the gift of getting nice marks at school without having to do much for it. So I don't hear any complaints. And I'm a smooth talker when it comes down to such things :innocent:

WTF? Your mom is crazy. You probably did better than at least 90% of the kids in your school.
My buddy lost his pc privelages for getting a B+ (asian family, so i guess it goes back to what demigod said)
As for me, my parents don't ***** a lot about my grades as long as I don't get a C in a core class, but are always concerned about how late I stay up. It's bull****, because they say it will affect my grades but it never does. For 2 marking periods before they found out I stay up late (yeah, I'm ninja :p) my grades never dropped below a B+. But they found out and now I am limited to 2 hours on the pc each week night and have to get off by 9. I guess they think it will make me study more, but really...when is the last time you thought to yourself, "well, since I have nothing to do, I might as well review the 3rd declension in my Latin book"? I don't know about you guys, but when I have nothing to do I a) pleasure myself; b) sleep. School is the last thing on my mind.

such 'real' topic... old as first 'home entertainment system' ;) I had simmilar problem with my parrent, but now, when I go to university, work, my mother sometimes shakes her head, but that's all :)

lol, I find myself in that as well. I even tidy my room before doing homework, and that's something I won't do out of myself easily. Usually my mom drops all the stuff from my floor onto my bed, when she is totally frustrated since it can look like there has been an earthquake
Needlesly to say, my bed is full of junk and I need to sort things out otherwise there's no place to sleep.

I guess this indicates my motivation for homework.

Also sometimes when I feel like doing homework, I get a good game that will get me distracted from that scary feeling :p
my mom is alright. I've only been grounded once in my life for going to friends for like 5 days one summer and not calling her to tell her where i was. I didn't really have a problem with it though, staying home is fine by me, not like im not at home most of the time anyways.
you know that they lve you...so overt payback is to go to a college that is many hours away so you cant come and visit them during the school year. Its their own ****in fault they should have been more laid back.
How do you guys' parents ever enforce these punishments? Back in those junior high and high school days, I made it clear to my parents that the only way to enforce me being grounded was to chain me to my bed, and if they wanted to deprive me of any of my appliances (most of which I bought myself from money I earned working anyway) that they'd have to hide them somewhere ridiculous and under lock and key where I'd have absolutely NO way to find them. The only thing they really could take away was my car privilege, but I had a bike and had no problem walking places - plus enough of my friends had cars anyway. By the time I was 15 they realized that they could SAY I was punished as much as they wanted, but they knew they had no way to enforce it, so they basically stopped trying.
The only things that DO affect me when it comes down to punishment is when my moms says she won't wash a single thing of me before I cleaned out my room, and that seems to work well with me :p

Otherwise they know that I will eventually do those things since what goes around comes around. Meaning my parents won't do things anymore that I ask them in a nice way. Or that I can't get from the door of my room to my bed without tripping at least 3 times on a path of 3 meters
i dont get complaints about my marks from my parents. then again im a friggin genious when it comes to anything and everything i take :p im getting a 95.3% average mark in all my classes this year and this is the last year so its supposed to be hard :p
