I've finished the game a couple of times over the years but every time it was the basic game from scratch.

I got the itch again to play it a few days ago but i want to play nighmare mode with a goodie or two so i found myself some savegames online, dusted off my old cd case and fired up epsxe.

Only to find that none of the six or seven savegames i downloaded work.

I can acess the save games via bios, i can use the memory card to save if i start a new game, i can play the game normally. But no nightmare mode for me because the game just won't recognise any saves i downloaded.

Usually I can find the issue online when something is not working by searching through the forums here but not this time...

Anyone got any ideas?

Your game region and linguistic parameters must match with the save you downloaded.

If I'm not mistaken, PE2 American saves are animated in Bios, Euro ones are static.

If regional parameters don't match, besides downloading an appropriate save file, there is basically nothing you can do. This tool PSXGameEdit / PSXGE - PSX Game Save editing utility... didn't work for PE2 I last checked. Though it should work if your region matches, but the language doesn't.

i have used memcardrex to convert ntsc saves to pal on 3 other games and it worked. just use the bios to import the converted file into memcard 1 slot.

I've just tried it. I've changed the SLUS number to a SLES one and modified the regional parameter. When trying to load, the game says "Save file is damaged".

assuming you changed the word 'slus' to 'sles' and modified the number to that from your cd, it should have worked, maybe just that game then.

The game recognizes the save, but says it's corrupted.

But this procedure works well for different language saves.

Someone else tried the same thing but PAL -> NTSC and had a really difficult time (never completed).
