What is the optimal speed for burning DVD's so that they are readable in old slow dvd rom drives.
My sony dvd writer can't read the DVD's burnt by itself oO, but they are readable in my Laptop's dvd drive.

The slower you burn, the less chance of error.
Or, at least that's what I've been told all these years.

Whenever I burn data disks I burn at maximum speed, but if I make bootable/Iso disks, I use the slowest available, just to be sure.

I know that when I burn some of my DVDs way fast...some of them will come out really bad...go with the slower the better, chicky. :thumb:

i figured out the problem with my drive, it reads only dvd+r

There may be an updated firmware available to allow reading of DVD-Rs.

its supposed to read -r too, says the manual. and it was able to do so in the past

I've always stuck with 4x for regular DVDs and 2.4x for Dual-Layers.

However, I've burnt plenty of discs at 8 and 12x that worked fine.

Same as above the only thing i want to add is that i use 2.4X for rewritables to, seems safer.

Indeed. My NEC 3550A has lasted only a year and a half and seems to be failing. Time to get a SATA DVD drive, I suppose.

i think samsung is the best brand in optical drives i have their cd drive and it ran for 7 years without a problem and is still running in perfect condition
