It appears that the once exclusive Ninja Gaiden 2 for the 360 will be making its Sigma debut for the PS3 kotaku reports:

This fall, Ninja Gaiden Σ 2 is coming to Sony's PLAYSTATION 3. The game is a PS3 remake of the "Only on Xbox 360" title Ninja Gaiden II.

The game will have PSN support as well as new content.

Like the original title, Ninja Gaiden Σ 2 is being developed by Tecmo's Team Ninja. However, Ninja Gaiden II was designed by former Team Ninja lead ninja Tomonobu Itagaki, who has since left the company. Itagaki was known for his preference for developing titles for Microsoft's game consoles. That, and drinking booze.

Yosuke Hayashi, director of the first Ninja Gaiden Σ, will once again take the reins for this Sigma remake sequel. As with Ninja Gaiden Σ, NG Σ 2 is a remake of an Itagaki designed game.

When asked about the first NG Σ title, Itagaki did not seem impressed in the least, saying, "All you need to do is play Ninja Gaiden II and then try and play Sigma afterwards and you'll see why. Despite the fact that it's on a 'next-generation' console there's no evolution whatsoever. That was made not by me, but one of my sub-ordinates who basically tried to copy the success of Ninja Gaiden."

In Ninja Gaiden Σ, it was possible to play as voluptuous character Rachel for some of the missions. In Ninja Gaiden Σ it will be possible to play Dead or Alive's Ninjutsu expert Ayane as well as Ninja Gaiden's Ryu Hayabusa — which makes sense as Hayabusa and Ayane are friends.
Xbox 360 Exclusive Ninja Gaiden II Coming To PS3 - Kotaku Australia

The PS3 sigma edition of the first Ninja Gaiden was met with a collective 'meh' from plenty of reviewers, as the main difference was a visual upgrade and an extra weapon or two and the ability to play as Rachel. Now that it appears that we can play as Ayane too, the chance that the mission modes that were available as DLC for the 360 could be on the PS3 from scratch as well, could this mean that I will have to buy it for the PS3?

Probably not, if they can add extra levels and more work into the story then possibly, and if the devs can sort out some of the frame rate issues that was evident on the 360 then it could be a purchase that could be worthwhile. In the end though great news for PS3 ninja fans.

EDIT: An IGN look at the proceedings:

Ninja Gaiden is making the trip to the PlayStation 3 again. It's got the "Sigma" in the middle of the name, but Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is a port of Ninja Gaiden 2 that promises a number of new features.

First shown in that usual source for Japanese gaming information, Famitsu, Sigma 2's biggest new feature is making Ayane playable. While the purple-haired "kunoichi" female ninja from Dead or Alive has always been a major part of the Ninja Gaiden story, she'll be playable in Sigma 2 and promises a completely different gameplay experience from Ryu Hayabusa. The magazine shows Ayane making use of a dual sword and teaming up with Ryu for what appears to be a combination attack of some form.

Other "big" updates include the presence of new enemies in some stages. The magazine introduces one such enemy, a giant Buddha. It also appears that the Statue of Liberty from the 360 version will be appearing in enemy form.

New weapons are on the way as well. The magazine introduces the new Hasaiga Enma, a massive weapon that appears to be taller than Ryu himself! It's unclear if this is the only new weapon or if PS3 owners can look forward to more.

A bit more mysterious perhaps is some supposed PlayStation Network support. The magazine does not indicate what form this will take.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is being developed by Team Ninja, with production and direction by the original Sigma's Yosuke Hayashi. Japan will get the game some time this fall.

An official site for the title will open up on the 25th, suggesting that this is probably the game Tecmo America has been teasing about for an unveiling on the 24th.
Might be worthwhile afterall.

Famitsu have scored some new shots of the game and by the looks of it, the new additions look to be rather good. Ryu has a new sword that makes the weapons from Final Fantasy look inadequate, Ayane as a playable character and what looks like both Ryu and Ayane performing ninpo together. Could this mean that the PS3 edition has an extended multi-player element to it?

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Looks Light On Bloody Violence - Kotaku Australia

Last bit of info coming through about the game, a new video has been released, showing off Ayane as a new playable character, but also a completely new character to play as, perhaps a member of the Dragon Ninja clan? But one thing is for sure, the gore seen in the 360 edition has been noticeably toned down, with fights no longer being the proverbial blood bath.
