I mind of well get a early jump start on this, so I'm not rushing like last year. I am planning a much more member-involved awards this year, in both voting and setting up the actual polls.

1) Anyone can vote.....even unregistered visitors. Visitors are usually the best voters because they tend to not be affected by influences of a tight community, like voting for friends or voting because you are being blackmailed with child porn :D

2) An awards committee : Basically....about 10-15 regular members make up the committee. The committee will be able to edit the awards forums like any other admin/mod (setup polls, aquire nominees, ect.)......regular members tend to me more 'in-sync' with the forums then we lazy admins are ^^

3) Special admin/mod awards : Last year, alot of people thought that all the nominees were chosen by the admins instead of the members (my fault  )....while yes, I'm hoping that this year that the awards will be created by the members, for the members.....I am planning for a few special admin/mod awards (where all admins get together and vote for some member of their choosings in the specific category)

4) Maybe even worthwile prizes??? I have a paypal account....maybe all the winners will get a buck or 2 from me ^^

Well that's everything I thought of during my 1 hour lecture hall....suggestions, please :)

You mean u thought of that while in your class :p ? That prof sure made you bored totally ;) .

I think it'll be good to introduce more categories for votings. And there's also something which might not get ur interest. I think that "Member of the year" is based on popularity not on contribution. So I guess the staff should make 2 different awards, one for the contributor of the year and another for the member of the year.

Just my rushed 2 cents :p . It's good to see you working on suggestions now btw ^_^ .

Side note : Check your email  . It's full of hentai presents from many members :p .
@Kirby : Err, hentai jokes on you aren't funny anymore :3 . I think you should change your theme ;)

I think the changes are very nice, but real prizes aren't necessary I think. And letting non-members vote might be a good idea, we've got alot of visitors, and from time to time you hear a new member say he's been a lurker for years. Especially for the signature/avatar awards this is a good idea.
Let's just hope none of us has a really big family :p (or alot of messenger contacts  )
Perhaps we should not only let the polls decide, but also the comments from members about why they actually chose someone.

very interesting, a new "temp group" and temp forum, eh? sounds interesting, but who would you pick to get it? and whaddaya mean lazy admins, im busy around here :p

i think prizes shouldnt be money, rather they should be funny prizes from the admins/moderators. i don't have much stuff in my apartment (in case you're out of the loop i moved out to college ;) ) but i could go back to my old house or find something silly sitting around here. i'd totally send a "personal" prize off to someone, i.e. a signed PSX game or something :p

also, i think it'd be cool to have "silly" or user decided groups. best sig/avatars, topic of the year, etc are mainstays, but it'd be cool to have like "user with most ridiculous posts" or something like that.

just my two cents ;)

The changes seem to be good enough to renew some of the interest in the awars, although I must also say that money awards may not be as good of an idea, since it would create conflicts and whatnot, but then again it's just my opinion.

And if you are bringing a closed thread award I would like for the plan thread to be avaible for everyone

Allowing guest votes makes it too easy to cheat, that is if anyone would be lamor enough to cheat to win something like this :p A bigger problem with guests votes is that a lot of people who don't have a clue might vote, which makes the result kind of pointless.

You know better than me that the better u can vote many times with your friends, the more sure you win.
Signing up is easy as hell. The idea was that to allow all people to vote without the necessary of going through a 5 minute form (to be honest, people will not sign up just to post in a yearly poll)......Also I guess we could set up some public polls that will reside on popularity, and then leave the avatar/signature stuff closed to only members

I had that lousy American Idol idea in my head (and we all know that is a sham....Boe should of won :( ). I was planning on a system that only allowed 1 vote per IP, but of course that can easily be bypassed if people are *that* desperate to use proxy servers or static IPs :p

I don't think there's a reason to exclude the avatars from the public polls, those are actually the ones that would make sense that way because that's what other ppl can see, while they might not know anything about what certain members have done for the community. We just have to make sure that we will put pictures of the nominated avatars in the threads that go with the poll so that everyone knows for which avatar we are voting when it has been replaced by a new one.

I too want that Kirby, but is there a way to prevent cheating? Believe me, I respected your opinion. It's good that admins care for even guests. But still the problem is obvious. If there is a way to prevent multi votes from same guest, I'll be glad to see it working.

Good luck either ways ^_^

as I said before, a forum usually determines if a guest already voted by matching up with a list of IPs that have already voted in the poll. And also as I said earlier, it can easily be defeated by using proxy servers or static IPs (thus hint why we have been having alot of problems lately with trying to block spammers with IP ranges)

There is most likely a better anti-cheating system made by vBulletin (possbily included when we upgrade to vB 3.5)......I'll make sure to look into that a little more
