I just started steam today , to play some cs 1.6-yeah i know, its old, but i got no games on my pc right now.
Played fine for like 30min, the went AFK, for 2 or 3 hours.
When i got back, i thought of playing a little bit more, but steam didnt log in, and all of a sudden, my connection stoped responding.
Wanna know it this happened to anyone else.....??

Maybe your ISP? Why does it allways have to be the steam updates...

If i reboot the machine it works ok.

Well steam has some serious issues. My computer has frozen 6 times and 5 of them were me trying to close steam (apparently valve didn't intend for people to actually hit the exit button). Everyone has their own problems, it always says im disconnected when i'm not, it freezes my computer, recource hog (not really a problem but a gripe), search steam forums to see if anyone ahs the same problem as you.

Not a single issue here, well, one in fact, I hate it when it slows down the whole system when it begins updating.

ive got one issue since the latest update but tis not with the connection. Player names seems to be screwed up. Like this afternoon i was playing and some dude whos name was Guybones would talk using that name but in the TAB list and on screen his name would be Marie. It finally went ok when we changed map. this has happend more then once today :S

i opened steam for the first time in a couple weeks just to update it today, went smooth. i never have any problems with steam.

well i myself hate steam, how they tried to make that whole mess work in my eyes is really stupid, only one other company i know of has anything like steam and that is playonline(final fantasy 11) and the way they have it working is well to say the least perfect. maybe valve can take a few lessons from it as i never have had any troubles with playonline where with steam it hardly works one bit and hl2, i should laugh, the game locks up and crashes half the time and i have yet to find a reasonable explaination for it not to mention a reasonable explaination as to why the ai wont work half the time i try to play the game. can anyone point me to why some of this happens?

AI disabled is a "feature" of the illegaly downloaded versions, so, erm :hmmm:

whatever the problem was it was steams fault. I base this on nothing other than the fact that I bloody hate steam and all it stands for. I cant even play hl2 in offline mode anymore keeps setting itself to update every time i reboot my computer which is a problem when you are on dial-up

i've hardly ever had a problem with steam. it's worked smoothly for me and done great. i liked downloading my HL2 and CS:S, even though it did take a bit long on 1.5mbit DSL...

i bought the game so erm!! lol. i fixed it most times its just a pain to make it work :/. than again i know a good deal about how hl2 works from goign through the forums finding out why the game has so many issues like how they purposely limit the memory used in that game, easy tweak to fix that, and now game runs a lot smoother. and the offline mode well i never bother with that as its just as much a pain to mess with, i would rather play a game thats much more complicated to play but actually works than a game that wont work very well have the time.(and yes i did buy the game so no one go accusing me of stuff before they know anything about the situation as mine does work just randomly stuff in it wont :/)

ever heard of the Do not automaticly update this game option?
