No, I'm not asking for a bios. What I'm asking is, with an unmodded PS2 am I boned as far as getting a bios dump in a legit manner?

Oh please do. I would like to dump mine, and any sort of guide would be great.

Depends on your PS2 version, pre v10 u can use the well known exploit to say run ps2link and then send the dumpbios elf over the network to the ps2. Versions of PS2 that cant use the exploit require a modchip or a swap method of some sort. Which I will not give details of in here, but if you search the net you will find heaps of info on it.

Not really back to the drawing board. But improved and refined is more the point. Using less and cheaper parts etc. Like 90% of all electronic stuff today.
