I don't think there's a connection between gamers in general and their musical preference.

Anyway, my favourite music is Powermetal, followed by Heavy Metal and some death metal. Some bands:
Sonata Arctica: Great lyrics, great music, great voice, my fav band!! Going to see them twice the next months :guitar:
Graveworm: The darkest metal I can listem to, seen em 3 times, even more impressive when live \m/
Dragonforce: The fastest Powermetal I've heard yet, insane guitar solos :D
Others definately worth checking out: Hammerfall (heavy metal), After Forever (gothic metal), Edguy (heavy metal)/ Avantasia (metal opera)

My first choice is J-Pop (Ayumi Hamasaki is undoubtedly my favorite). Also techno is good for certain games. ;) And of course, I like my rock: Godsmack, Disturbed, Limp Bizkit. Maybe there is a connection.......:p

A little powerman5000 with CS:Source can get you pumping :p I usually like punk, rock, punk/rock but a little bit of everything except country and rap. Avenge Sevenfold(A7X) and Joe Satriani is what I enjoy atm :)

Couldn't have said it better myself. Switch those last 2 bands to Strung Out, Sublime, and Thrice and you got about what i've been listening to lately. Maybe some andrew WK if i'm in the mood.

Powermetal for me, if I'm not listening to game music. I pretty much only listen to one band though, Blind Guardian, with a few scattered songs from other bands on the side like Opeth (well, actually only one Opeth song, but I listen to it quite often :p) and Hammerfall.

Hey MaZa and Cid Highwind, you might wanna check out Blind Guardian if you already haven't. Powermetal, they're quite awesome.

Yeah they're one band I still need to check out, I don't even know why I haven't yet, probably cause I've been too busy listening to Sonata Arctica :p

And Chrono, you're such a lucky batard having pictures with Rhapsody, those guys are awesome. Ah well, I shouldn't complain, drinking whisky with the guys from Dragonforce was fun as well :D

Listening to The Black Mages II - The Skies Above now, nice music, but they could've done better with the drums :(

I used to listen to it, started out with trance back in '98, when it was still new and there wasn't as much commercial crap in it as there is now. But I grew tired of it in 2002 when it became really rare when I heard a song that impressed me with innovation. So I moved on to harder dance styles, mainly Hardstyle (like DJ Dana, Luna, Pavo to name a few). After a year I think that also started to sound like all the same to me so I moved on to Hardcore (think of Promo, Neophyte, Outblast, Angerfist), but nowadays I just don't care for it that much anymore... It doesn't have the artistical creativity metal has. And I do think there's a link to be made: I like my music fast and heavy, but melodic at the same time. At parties and clubs I still like dance music, but only when the night starts out with chilled trance, and it eventually will work up to hardcore by the end of the night. But at home I'll stick to metal :guitar:

Funny though, the day before I left for Kenya a friend of mine gave me an ID-T top 500 dvd (ID-T being one of the biggest dance record labels in Holland) and when I started to listen to it with R2RX's brother I found out there were so many good songs in it from 'back in the days', songs I used to record on tapes and make my own mixes, still have em around here :p. And after he let me hear some of his trance it really gave me back the feeling for it. It reminded me of how good that music 'can' be when it's done properly.
